Happy May Day. This weekend is the Texas SandFest here in Port Aransas. I had hoped to get some pictures to share, but unfortunately due to the high tides I could not get down the beach to the event. The traffic is such that the wait to get to the site would be way too long taking the one road on the island. The Texas SandFest is a major sand sculpture competition that brings artists from all over the world. Here is a link to the Sandfest Facebook page where you can see at least some of the displays.

Here is a picture of the beach where you can see evidence of the tides and a nice reflection of the sun on the water.

A May day photo from Texas from John Howell.. that is what you call atmospheric..

That sounds like a fun event. Seen pictures of stuff like that and always wondered how a person can do it. I assume they have more than a bucket and shovel.

They have sprayers and all kinds of carving tools. The secret is a little Elmer’s glue mixed with water sprayed on to keep it all together.

I did always wonder how they stuck together. Thanks.

Beautiful shot, John. Yes, it really does look like there was quite a high tide. (Blondie in my head now. Good song for the morning.) Sorry you missed the sand sculptures because of it though. I didn’t know it was such a huge event. Wow.
Have a sublime Sunday. Mega hugs.

Good morning John,
I’ve read about that Sandfest and have wanted to go there, but now, with you commenting on the heavy traffic, I’m not that sure.
Have a great Sunday,

I wondered what Sandfest was, then when I looked at the picture I understood. There’s a SunFest event each September at a beach not too far from us, and they usually have fabulous sand sculptures as part of the festivities.
Happy May Day. I’ve loved this day ever since going to May Fairs as a kid 🙂

Thanks Mae Clair. May Day was always nice when I was a kid since it signaled the beginning of the end of school for the summer.

Looks like a pretty day your way, John. I love those sand sculptures! We had some folks set up a huge display at the mall when I was in Gulfport a few years ago, and the detail is exceptional! Must take a LOT of patience to produce art from sand.
