Sunday – Views of the Neighborhood

Today’s views of the neighborhood will begin at The Wetlands Educational Center (rainy day photo)

This first photo (taken in the rain) is one 0f a sign explaining that the six posts on the next photo are on the compass points to six other Estuary Research Science Areas in the US.

wet lands

Here are the posts and monument.

Six posts

This next photo is one of the Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) where the rescued marine animals recover. Those Pelicans could be old patients who refuse to leave (I’m not sure, but that’s what they look like to me)

ARK

Here is a closer shot.

ARK

This sign leads me to believe that smoking of other substances is not forbidden.

Tobacco free zone

There is a beautiful granite jetty all along the science center. The center is to our back. The canopies in the background are for people fishing off the jetty. That red thing is a parasailer.

Jetty

A shot taken from the jetty. There are turtles and dolphins in the water, and this is a turtle.(Couldn’t get a dolphin to pose)

Turtle

Another shot from the jetty. The area is a boat operators dream. The seas are usually calm due to the jetty.

Boater's dream

It is even nice for jet skis.

Jet Ski

A parting shot looking back from the jetty to the Science Center.

    1. Thanks, Jill. The jetty is amazing. Those chunks of granite were trucked in from the hill country in the 30’s. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

  4. It looks like a hot day, John. Or maybe I just imagine so because it’s hot here. Yet the water looks so lovely and refreshing. What I’m trying (not so successfully) to say, is it seems like a lovely day. The water and boating shots brought back long ago memories of looking at boats on the lake in TN or the Gulf in FL. Thanks for this mini-vacation. Happy Father’s Day.

    1. Thank you, Teagan. Yes, it was hot. Heat index at about 92 degrees but still lovely. 🙂 HUGS.

  7. Good morning, John,
Those dolphins are elusive, aren’t they? Your pictures once again conjure up memories. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 The view from the jetty across the ship channel reminds me that I still have to visit San Jose Island. Maybe next time.
    Have a wonderful Sunday,

      1. It’s supposed to be lovely and quiet, isn’t it?

      2. Well I hear there is a lot of Gulf trash there since it is a forward landing spot. I would imagine it is quiet though.

      3. A lot of Gulf trash maybe also because it’s privately owned [am I right there?] and thus the beaches are not cleaned (on a regular basis)?

      4. Yes, I think so. There are community clean up trips to the island. Not sure how frequent though.

  8. Looks like a great place. Those Pelicans remind me of the old farmers who meet at the coffee shop every morning to talk about the weather.

  9. A wonderful tour, John. I’m green with envy over all that water and wide open spaces. Thank you for sharing. I’ll go find a small beach somewhere where I can relax. 😎 Sigh.

  13. John, the color of the water must be similar throughout the Gulf region — it looks “muddy,” just like it does in Gulfport. I enjoyed your tour — love the pelicans and jet skis. Happy Father’s Day to you!

    1. The muddy look is because of the heave winds and wave action. It will be back to blue in a couple of days.
