Sunday – Views of the Neighborhood

While out walking the dogs on Friday I was amazed by the way the sun played off the water. I took this shot and although it looks like it might be a rain storm coming it was not. These are clouds formed by the tropical moisture in the Gulf. If they do form rain clouds, they dump the rain further inland later in the day. This shot is at about 8:30 in the morning and this is looking North East.

This next photo is one I captured the same day only later. I took it because this freighter moving through the Corpus Christi Channel had to be the ugliest one I have seen for a while.  Here is what I mean.

To the left is a ferry getting ready to make a crossing. This long view doesn’t give you the correct picture. Here is a closer look.

Check this thing out. I also took a shot of a ferry starting across the channel after the freighter passed. (The freighter is still ugly)

Finally, to redeem myself, I took a shot toward the entrance of the channel where it meets the Gulf. (This is where the freighter entered.) I will confess I normally have my producer with me on these shoots and this time I was running solo. My solo act may be the last time I try that maneuver.

If you look close, you can see a guy fishing off the sea wall. Next week will be better.

It always reminds me of very happy days when we lived in Texas when I see John Howell’s photographs of the coastline.. magical place.

    1. Yes. He is enjoying the day while I’m complaining about a butt ugly freighter. I think he has the right idea. 🙂

  3. Guess that freighter has been working hard. Just needs some paint or maybe pretty stickers.

ugly freighter(s) or not: I always love watching the ships passing by when I’m in Port A.

  7. Good morning John and happy Sunday. LOL, I’m still chuckling about you taking a picture of something just because of the pure ghastliness of it… but you’re right. That’s one butt-ugly freighter! o_O
However, to be honest, it was hard for me to notice anything but those gorgeous cloud-scapes and that glorious shade of blue behind them. This was another sensational Sunday tour of the neighborhood. Mega hugs.

    1. Leave it to you to see the best part. I happen to agree. I also was a little bummed since the freighter I wanted to shoot had already gone. (Big ole crude oil carrier)

  14. The clouds are amazing. The photo of the freighter gives us a view of the reality of what living on the gulf. Like elsewhere, ugliness sometimes intrudes. Great photos, John.

  15. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, that freighter was way ugly though. I love to see the sun, usually just before retiring, but work must happen during the day for what ungodly reason? Anyhoo I’m just about to head out to start earning my daily crust.

    1. Thank you for the lovely visit, Dave. Not sure why work was invented. It is the curse of the drinking class. 😀

      1. And there was me thinking that sleep was the curse of the drinking class! If you don’t sleep you won’t wake up with a hangover 😎

      4. It would be fun. Well, who knows? Let’s think on it. We could have a curse post to launch but would have to explain it very clearly.

      5. My thoughts exactly, just keep it fun nothing heavy but let’s think on it until Saturday then compare ideas 😀
