Wednesday Story Day – AKA Hump Day

Hump Day

It is Wednesday Story Day again. Last week we left Alice Weston inviting Lucas into Mrs. Murphy’s house for a drink of water. We all shouted for Lucas not to go inside but we are not sure he heard us. We should return to the story to see if Lucas has any sense at all.
“See Lucas Mrs. Murphy’s door is unlocked. Come with me.”
“Uh, Mrs. Weston.”
“What is it, Lucas?”
“Mrs. Murphy has never invited me in before, and I just don’t feel right about barging into her house.”
“For heaven’s sake. I thought you would be a man with some courage. Apparently, I was mistaken.”
“It’s not a matter of courage. It’s a matter of good manners.”
“You saying I don’t have good manners?”
“N-no. I mean it is my manners I’m talking about. You and Mrs. Murphy are friends, so it’s okay for you to do what you want.”
“My aren’t we the slick one though?”
“What do you mean?”
“You got out of that very nicely. I’m impressed.”
“Just telling you how I feel.”
“I know, and it’s so sweet. A good-looking young man with manners and a very quick mind as well. Those two qualities actually turn women on. You have a lot of girlfriends Lucas?”
“No ma’am. I don’t have any girlfriends.”
“You gay, Lucas?”
“No ma’am. I don’t think so. I just haven’t had the time for girls.”
“You want to make some time for a woman, Lucas dear?”
“Em. I’m not sure what you mean?”
“Come inside, and I’ll show you.”

Goodness…the plot thickens. Like Jill, I thought of Mrs. Robinson. Really good writing, John.

  3. Oh man…paint the house and get gone! I still don’t trust Lucas, but I’m beginning to worry about him. Then I worry about me. What kind of evil twist is John setting me up for. It’s like the noise in the basement. I’m scared, but I can’t stop.

  4. “Come into my parlor,” said the spider to the fly.” Wow, that’s one bold woman. DON’T GO LUCAS! I hope he heard that. However, he may know more than he’s letting on. I really like old Captain Jack Sparrow. He’s like a cartoon character. He can’t be killed. Good thing as the series would be lost without him. Good story episode, John. 😀 — Suzanne

    1. Thanks, Suzanne. I don’t think we know Lucas very well at this point. We will have to stand by. 🙂

  8. Yes, I was thinking that this may well turn into an X-rated story! So who’s not coming back to find out???

  10. Well, that’s going in an interesting direction. Lucas is a grown man and can do what he likes, but I think he’d be well advised to run a mile in the other direction.

  11. Lucas did work his way out of the “manners” quandary very deftly. I don’t think he’s going to have the same luck squirming free of going inside with Mrs. Cougar—er, Mrs. Weston 🙂

    Most entertaining, John!

  12. I had the same thought as Suzanne. “Come into my (neighbor’s) parlor, said the spider to the fly…” Mrs. Weston is not a cougar after all. But does she have the patience of a spider? Or its guile? Maybe my thoughts should turn mythological, rather than to animals. If she starts to sing, then she is surely a siren. 😉

Monday was a holiday for me…. so it seems to have decided to replace Wednesday. Even so, I guess that’s better than what happened in the meme! Have a wonderful Wednesday. Thanks for another fun lunch break, John. Mega hugs.

    1. Always nice to share my sandwich. Thanks, Teagan. I was also thinking of a siren o great minds think alike (fools seldom differ)

  13. Is the parlor what authors might call a turning point for Lucas? Tune in next week, same bat time, etc.
