It is Wednesday Story Day time again, and last week we witnessed a confrontation between Seth and Alice which made it clear that these two had some major history. We left them without knowing why Seth said, “You were right,” to Alice. Well, we can always hope that was a hint for a cringe moment later. Let’s get back to the widow’s house in this lovely town of Antion, Illinois. Notice the town has a name, and I want to thank Dan Antion for allowing me to borrow his surname for the story. (You can almost see his editor’s eye roll can’t you?)
“Hey, Alice. I thought you had left.”
“Hi, Lucas. I had an errand to run is all.”
“You led me to believe you were changing your mind about coming to my place.”
“Well, I did change my mind about that earlier. With a little encouragement, I could be persuaded to change my mind again.”
“I am real confused. One minute yes, one minute no. What can I do to convince you?”
“How about saying something nice.”
“Like how beautiful you look today.”
“Nice start.”
“You look beautiful today.”
“You said that Lucas. Try something else.”
“Come over here and sit next to me on the swing.”
“Okay. What do you have in mind?”
“Nothing but I can say I like the way the sun hits your hair. Makes it glow.”
“ How sweet you are. I really believe you mean that.”
“Can I hold your hand?”
“I’m not sure I want the neighborhood seeing us mooning on the front porch swing.”
“Yeah, I see that. I’ll just say I like the way your dress lays when you cross your legs.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your legs are something I would like to see. I have a hint by how the fabric clings but would like to touch them in the flesh.”
“That was almost poetic. I am starting to like the way you talk.”
“I also like your arms. They have a healthy and trim look, and I could imagine being held close by them. Your hands—”
“Let’s go to your place, Lucas. Now.”
Great dialogue, John – leaves the reader with a list of plot possibilities, beginning with what will we discover in Lucas’s place… 🙂

Gee, that Lucas is a sweet talker! Very smooth! Anton, Illinois produces some very classy lotharios – and then there’s Seth. Sigh. Loving the story, John!

She’s easily persuaded, isn’t she? Let’s hope Lucas isn’t too disappointed in what he sees…

You are way too smart, Jill. Alice not so much. 🙂

I’m not sure how well he paint, but he sure covered a lot of ground in this conversation. I like the way the town name looks in print, John. Thanks for the reference. I’m looking forward to the next episode, but I’m wondering if we’re going to see steam or bloodshed. Or, and more likely, something we haven’t considered.

Hmmm. As you know, I’m not much into graphical depiction of violence. I am concerned about the widow though. 🙂

Nice to have a name for this story location, John. Something tells me, though, that Lucas must be from “up north.” He’s far too forward-thinking for downstate, ha! As for Alice, it didn’t take much for her to succumb, did it??

Nope. She was intent all along. Thanks, Debbie.

And things are starting to sizzle! I wonder if these two will actually end up following through or if something (or someone) else will change their plans for them again.

Hmmm. Maybe I should ask for a preference. 😀

Oh my! Yes, I am also wondering what she will find at Lucas’ place, if she ever makes it there. 🙂 Certainly didn’t take him long to convince her.

No it didn’t. Of course there is reader interest and word count to worry about.

Old couple go on a date. Date goes well, they head back to her place.
Heading to the bedroom, he follows her up the stairs as she says;
“I think I should warn you, I have acute angina.”
He replies;
“Your ass isn’t bad either.”

One woman who knew Lucas recently has not been seen lately. I think Alice should wait to see her before she goes to Lucas’ apartment where she’s alone with him. I watch TV crime shows and I’m suspicious. Then there’s always “Psycho” to remember. Good story continuance, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

Thank you, Suzanne. I don’t think Alice is thinking to far ahead right now. 😀

Yikes I was late for the party. I have a feeling Alice and Lucas will end up with some kind of chaperone at his place — but who or what? It could be a rat who lives in the mountain of empty beer cans that takes up 3/4th of the living room floor. (But wait, I’ve already met that guy.) Or for all I know the widow might finally show up there. Either way, I think Alice might be more generally capable than anyone gives her credit.
Mega hugs!
