Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

TGIF

It has been a fast week. It seems that way to me although I can’t really explain why. Maybe it’s all the extra projects that I have been working on. (Not writing projects) Our painter is supposed to show up to do the outside of the house, so I have been getting the nails and screws covered with a protective paint. Although the painters say, they have stuff that will do the job, looking at my neighbors still, leads me to my tried and true method. I have one neighbor whose house was painted last year, and the nails are already rusting through. I buy a special product, and it has to be put on by hand. The only spots I can’t reach are on the chimney and peak of the roof. I will let the painter handle those. I have also been doing some general repairs which are a constant here near the Gulf. Finally, I wrapped up the taxes. (Yes, I do my own. I figure my MBA has got to be good for something) Today’s JohnKu talks about projects. I hope you enjoy your weekend

    1. Luck for me I have been at it for years. The ones needing treatment are those missed in the past so not too many. 🙂

Lucky you, John! You can get outside to do those “fun” projects – we’re supposed to get 8″ of snow today! Good grief… the pain, the pain…

  7. I can tell a lot of productivity at your end. At least prepping the nails gave you something to do. 😉 And the fact that your neighbor didn’t do the prep is Obama’s fault. But in that JohnKu, I sensed a hammer hitting my finger. Ouch!

    1. I know right? To make matters worse we have a new light on Padre Island high as you get off the causeway. (Nightmare) If that wasn’t enough TexDot is making 361 wider but have traffic back ups for miles. We need to hunker down and not run out of wine.

  10. Yep, the chores never end. From that aspect, apartment living isn’t bad. 🙂 Have a great weekend, John.

    1. Yes. While our house was being built we lived in a condo. It was nice having nothing to do in the upkeep department. Have a great weekend, Jan

  14. Our to-do list is extensive and ever-growing. We’re hearing rumors of snow this weekend (in Arkansas, of all things), so I’m guessing outdoor chores will have to wait. But best wishes to you!

    1. The only plus side of a snowstorm is chores have to wait. Hope you stay warm. Thanks, Staci.

  15. I like brick houses too because there’s no painting involved.
A house always needs something like it’s building its own bank account. o_O

    1. So true. Our building code doesn’t allow brick so slave away we do. 🙂

  22. Ha!!! Love the Johnku. I haven’t heard of that with nails, paint, and rust. You always have something going on.
My computer gets wonky every weekend lately, so my taxes are still waiting. I think I have finally received all the required forms. One from the Fed gov didn’t arrive until Monday…
Save time for some fun this weekend, John. Mega hugs!

  25. The week did fly by! I have to get out taxes ready for the accountant to do next week. I’ll be glad when that’s over.

We’ll see if the painter did a good job on the nails on our house. So far so good. It’s been a year.
The last time He-man and I painted the house we prepped it by the book. I sanded and primed the nails with a shellac or varnish. Those rusty nails didn’t start showing up for about 8 yrs. It was time to repaint by then b/c the tippy top of the peaks on the West and East sides of house started to peel from years of heat and exposure.

    1. I love that tip. The stuff I use recommends no sanding and just lay it over the rust. It interacts with it somehow. Thanks, Deborah.
