Views of the Neighborhood

Since this is spring break time, I had hopes of catching some excellent photos of American youth out of control. You know the ones where no one can focus their eyes, duckfaces, tongues out, red Solo cups, cigarettes, no shirts, and no shoes.

For a little nostalgia here is a shot from last year. (yes, there is a guy in the photo )

Spring Break

Since I take the photos for this feature on Saturday, I’m sad that at press time because of record-breaking rain, the posted photos show a different scene. (Don’t get me wrong. I’m not sad there is no mayhem, I’m sad we have nothing to laugh over)

So, let’s take a look at some friends of mine. I have to warn you these guys are not wearing any clothes.

Spring break

Yup this is a flock of Pelicans flying over a dark and stormy beach. This is a look to the North, and you can see some blue barrels on the beach. These are designed to keep the thousands of college kids from parking by the dune and blocking the road. They are put up for spring break then taken down. Usually, there are hundreds of vehicles going back and forth. The next photo shows a vehicle in the area.

Spring break

You have to admit it is a pretty dismal sight. I can’t imagine sleeping in that soggy tent.

This next shot shows an alternative to the soaked tent.

Spring break

Not sure this is any less dismal.

This last shot is of the beach chair set up by the resort down the road. I think they are ready for what will be no-shows.

Spring break

In case you wonder, we are most happy when the weather does not co-operate. We have become used to the peace and quiet of no spring break, and when it is upon us, all we can do is hunker down. This year it appears we have had a break of our own. Besides, the lawn needed a drink.

The weather is supposed to clear by Monday (darn it) so I’m sure there is plenty of noise, trash, and drunk time left in the week. I’ll be hanging out inside.

  1. Remembering your previous spring break takes, congrats on the bad weather. We have a snow storm coming here in a few days. Want me to send it down to keep the parties indoors? 😁

  2. I would imagine residents all over spring break destinations enjoy a break from good weather. Except maybe the beer sellers. Still, they’re probably drinking somewhere.

The soggy tent bring back memories of camping. Not st the beach, but when it’s raining, it doesn’t matter where you are.

    1. The sad thing is most of these tent people also leave the biggest messes. Not sure why. Thanks, Dan

      1. I camped mostly on trails. We respected the “carry out what you carry in” rule.

  3. Well, at least the rains brought a few days of peace. Did I ever tell you about the time I went to Key West for spring break? We were walking down Duval Street and from a balcony above, someone vomited on my head. Needless to say, my remaining college spring breaks were spent at home. It’s snowing here this morning…YUCK! Happy Sunday, John!

  6. Oh my, it really does look dismal John! The sun is shining here today but with temperatures of -8 Celsius, I don’t think we’ll be seeing too many bikinis😂

  7. The weather does look dismal. Enjoy your calm before the storm. (We never plan to vacation during spring break season. I go to the beach to read, relax, and enjoy the beach.)

  9. I never minded the cold and wet weather in Texas. Being a Minnesotan, I am thankful for small gifts and dress for whatever is outside.

  10. Bad weather beach shots are always more interesting – and Spring break can go on just as easily indoors with the central heating set to tropical after all! 😉
Lovely to be almost on the beach and watch the birds come inland and see the surf and clouds racing across the sky with a cup of something hot and/or strong to hand as well. 😀

Ducklips! I’ve tried it and I always end up in a laughing fit over how silly I look and don’t make a selfie in the end. By then my mascara is running down my cheeks, and my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. 🙂

Enjoy the peace and storm. Sounds like a good time to curl up with a good a good book, and fire in the fireplace, with something warm to drink.
