It is Wednesday Story Time again. Last week we were treated to a bit of information that had us on the ropes (metaphorically speaking, of course). It seems that Harriet and Alice have a past together that included some unsavory items. It is time to get back to the hospital since I see the doctor coming out into the waiting room.
“Doctor do you have news for us?”
“Which of you is Mrs. Murphy?”
“I’m Mrs. Murphy.”
“And so you must be Mrs. Weston.”
“Yes, yes I am.”
“Okay how about we have a seat over there.”
“Is it serious doctor?”
“Well, let’s just say Mr. Saveride has a long way back.”
“What do you mean back?”
“That is a good question, Mrs. Weston. Mr. Saveride suffered a traumatic injury to his liver, spleen, and gut. He fell quite a distance and when he hit the ground there was a secondary collision of his organs inside his body.”
“Oh, my.”
“Yes, Mrs. Murphy. He is very lucky to be alive. I must say he is strong and young but he will need a lot of rest and little motion for the next few weeks.”
“I have a spare room. He can certainly stay with me.”
“Alice you know full well that he will be staying at my house.”
“Well, he won’t be leaving this hospital for at least two weeks so you two have plenty of time to determine where he can go. Also, I will not release him if he still has signs of internal injuries.”
“He can stay as long as necessary. I’m fully responsible for his bills.”
“I do understand that Mrs. Murphy and he is lucky to have a friend like you.”
“Yes, Mrs. Murphy. Mr. Saveride is very lucky to have a friend like you.”
“Please, Alice we need to think of Lucas and put our petty differences behind us.”
“Unless there are any questions, I have another surgery to attend.”
“When can we see him?”
“He should be awake soon and then about an hour in the ICU just to make sure he’s okay. I would say tonight about seven. In the meantime, I think you too ought to get some dinner.”
“Thank you, doctor. And thank you for saving our Lucas.”
“You are quite welcome. If you have any other question please get in touch.”
“We will doctor. Goodbye.”
‘“We will doctor goodbye.’ You make me sick.”
“Come on Alice. Let’s follow the doctor’s advice and grab some dinner. I could use a belt.”
“I thought you gave up alcohol, Harriet you dog.”
“I’m taking it up again. You want dinner or no?”
“Hell yeah. I’m in. Like old times.”
“Keep your hands to yourself though.”
“Aw. That’s no fun.”
“Maybe not, but just the same.”
“Buzzkill.”
Love the kitten, she probably glimpsed poor Lucas – or maybe one of the ladies. When I got to the line, “We will doctor goodbye.’ You make me sick.” – I burst out laughing. Great line, John – now I’m hooked for sure! 🙂

Thanks, Gwen. I could hear that one with a little whine. 😀

Well, that was realistic. We still don’t know much about Lucas’s past. Of course, he’s no danger to others in his condition. It seems these two women are what’s known as friendly enemies. Another good installment, John. I like the kitty at the top of the page. 🙂 — Suzanne

You’re showing your age with “I could use a belt” – love it. A realistic conversation, here , believe me!!

Yikes! Major surgery, two weeks in a hospital, time in ICU and these women are fighting over who wants to be responsible? I would be all: “you touched him last, he’s yours…”
Great episode John. I like these little lulls before the storm. Of course, I expect we have a few twists and turns coming our way. I just hope I don’t end up looking like that cat.

Wow. Didn’t realize he fell so far and got that hurt. Hope he gets enough rest because he’s going to need it.

Glad to see you’re handing out beer today, John. I’ll have a belt! And in the immortal words of an old Molson Golden commercial: “Make it a cold one, eh!” Great story, John!

I loved that 🙂
I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting dinner.
BTW, that kitten pic is adorable!

These two ladies are going to have to come to grips (no pun intended) with their differences and get on the same team. 🙂 And, if Lucas survives, he’s going to have more attention than he can shake a stick at. After all of that, I’d be inclined to have a “belt” or “short snort” with Harriet. 🙂

I like the short snort idea. Thanks, Jan

Everyone has to eat. Glad Lucas pulled through for the time being.

Aw, I’m not much on cats, but this kitty is so cute! Poor Lucas. I didn’t realize he’d been hurt that bad. Sounds pretty expensive, to me. Wonder if these cougars will be fighting over the hospital bill when it shows up?!?

I think Harriet has a reason for wanting to pay it. We’ll have to find out.

You know I love the kitten. At this point, I’m wondering if Lucas should consider faking his death – might make his life easier.

I think you have a point, Teri. He could also feign brain damage. 🙂
