Wednesday Story Day – AKA – Hump Day

Hump Day Camel

It is Wednesday Story Day again. Last week Nurse Campbell (Uh Staci) and Lucas seemed to be getting along quite well. Although most of you feel Lucas is on the make, I’m not so sure. Well, we need to go back to Anton, Illinois. It seems while Lucas is in the hospital Seth Gibson (The Sheriff) has been snooping around. He makes a phone call to Alice. Let’s go and take the literary license of being able to hear both sides of the conversation. (It is our right as readers.)

“Hello, Alice?”
“Yes, Seth it’s me.”
“Man, are you ever going to sweeten up?”
“Just get to it, Seth. What do you want?”
“Okay, I’ve been doing some inquiries about Lucas and his parents. I got a call from a pharmacist in Kenosha.”
“Kenosha? What the heck is a Kenosha?’
“It’s not a thing. It’s Lucas’ hometown in Wisconsin.”
“Where his parents were murdered?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“What did he want?”
“Well, I called every drugstore in Kenosha to see if there were any unusual circumstances around prescription drugs—”
“Wait a minute Seth. What pharmacist worth his salt is going to give you information without a court order. Medical information is private.”
“There is an old adage in investigative work. ‘Shake the tree to see what falls.’”
“Whatever that means.”
“I just identified myself as the sheriff conducting an investigation into the Saveride murders and what falls out of the tree but this Pharmacist.”
“What did he say?”
“Well, he was real cautious given the sensitivity of any medical information. He wanted to make sure he would not be tied to the case.”
“So you told him he would not, right?”
“Yes, I did. Then he tells me that Lucas was getting regular prescriptions for anxiety. He even mentioned that the side effects could be uncontrolled rage or thoughts of suicide.”
“My gosh, Seth. I wonder if he is still on ’em.”
“It is something to follow-up on for sure. The reason I’m telling you this is so you’ll be careful around him.”
“Yes, Seth I’m sure you want me to be careful.”
“You know Alice, sometimes you are too smart for your own good.”
“Oh, okay Seth. I’ll try to dumb down for you.”
“Goodbye, Alice. You’ve been warned.”
“So you believe the Pharmacist?”
“Not sure. I wonder why he would give up the information so easily. I just want to keep you safe so until I check it out, so you be careful.”
“Okay, Seth. By the way…Thanks. Bye.”
“Bye Alice.”

      3. I’ve been close to Kili three times: twice to clear customs (once in a 42-year-old DC 3 Dakota) and once in a light aircraft when we flew between the peaks, with an intriguing result, which would make an interesting post at some time.

Hmm, why would a pharmacist offer up something confidential – sight unseen? Gosh…the story has gotten even more complex. No wonder the camel greeted us today… 🙂

    1. I’m wondering why he bothered to give Seth the information. I guess we will find out sometime. (You listening Mr. Author?)

  4. I think for the time being everyone should be careful around Lucas. He sounds a bit unstable. I love the camel. They always look so bored. I’ve read they sometimes spit. 😀 — Suzanne

    1. I read the same thing about camels. Never saw one spit though. Thanks, Suzanne. 🙂

  5. Hmmmm, I almost forgot about Seth, and now he drags in the mystery pharmacist (who immediately becomes a suspect in my mind). This is your plan, though, isn’t it, John? I have to go to Facebook and look at kittens for a while.

  6. Seeing a softer side of Seth. Maybe he still cares about Alice more than he would like to admit. Lucas is under the magnifying glass. 🙂

Gwen, what does the camel have to do with the complexity of the story? LOL! I just love a new twist, John!

    1. There are so many funny memes around Hump Day. The one I like best is when Wednesday says, “Say hump day one more time and I’ll gut you with a spork.”

  10. Hmm. More troubles are brewing on the horizon.
So now I’m wondering (again) if Lucas had anything to do with the murder of his parents and also that maybe he didn’t fall from that ladder. Could he be suicidal?
Subplots upon subplots. Way to keep us guessing, John!

And can I just say I love that you spelled Nurse Campbell’s name with an “I”? Nice choice. 😉

  13. I’ll be happy as a camel on hump-day — at the end of the day Friday…
I get the feeling this is going to get more and more complicated, John. Better loosen up my muscles, because… “Come on baby, let’s do the twist!” Mega hugs.

  15. I miss seeing and hearing the camel on Wednesdays — thanks for bringing him back! This story is taking another turn, isn’t it? Most medical types are very hush-hush with private info — what’s up with this guy?!

  16. There’s a Big Pharma message in here somewhere. As for Lucas . . are you throwing out a clue as to where his character might be going? Is he more Darth (Vader) than Garth (Algar)? Hmmm. You’re sneaky, mister.
