Thursday – A Little Personal – Fur Kids in Exile

Stella

“Okay, John. Let’s chat.”

“Alright, Stella. What do you want to talk about?”

“Being a refugee.”

“We are not refugees. We are evacuees.”

Stella

“A rose by any other name is still a rose.”

“Okay, I’ll admit this is not ideal. We are better off than a lot of the Harvey Hurricane victims”

Stella

“Just look at you earlier. Sound asleep on your IPad.”

“Yeah and look at the covered couch.”

Lucy

“Lucy looks content.”

“Feed her and she’d be content on an iceberg.”

Bailey

“And look at Bailey. She is on the couch too.”

“The same covered couch.”

Lucy

“You know Boss this isn’t home.”

“I know, Lucy but home has no electricity, water, or sewer.”

“Well if we are all there that wouldn’t matter.”

“Yes, but isn’t it better to be comfortable? We are all here.”

Bailey

“I guess pop.”

“Thank you, Bailey. I knew I could count on you to be logical.”

“When we heading home?”

“Might be a while yet kids.”

“I think we ought to remember the victims who lost everything and the first responders who saved countless lives at the risk of their own.”

“We agree, Boss. Thanks.”

We have all been horrified by the newspaper and television coverage of the loss of life and the ongoing crisis in Texas.. John Howell, whose home is on the Texas coast is safe inland but this post reflects the fact that life is more important than possessions and pays tribute to all the first responders who are risking their lives 24/7… Thanks John, Stella, Lucy and Bailey.. so happy you are all safe and well…

Your fur babies may complain, but they know mom and dad will take care of them – there’s acceptance in their protests. I love that Stella is so logical – quite the character. 🙂 Another great four-footed post, John. Be kind to yourself during this difficult time.

Here’s a lighthearted, but thankful perspective on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey from my good friend, thriller wizard John Howell. Johna nd his family were evacuated from his island home in the Gulf of Mexico to Austin, Texas last week, and still can’t go back.

  13. I’m very happy that you can all be together. A lot of folks have been separated from their fur-babies. Of course, a lot of people have suffered much worse than that. It’s hard to put things into perspective. I hope you get back soon, but I worry about the amount of work that will be required when you do. Keeping you (all) in our thoughts and prayers…even Stella.

  23. Your fur kids speak for everyone who had to evacuate. The good thing is, you all had a safe, dry place to go to, without having to bunch up like sardines. Inconvenient? Definitely, but it’s temporary. Loss of life is permanent. Glad you’re all safe, John. Praying for a quick return to normalcy!
