Friday John Ku – AKA – TGIF

Funny Friday

Friday is here already. Time does fly when you are having fun. I still don’t have internet or TV, but I am managing quite well on my AT&T cell phone. The speed isn’t all that red-hot, but I’m able to work it through. I did cancel my Spectrum service since they refused to credit my account for the time of the hurricane and until when it comes back. (Yes, they billed me the full amount payable in advance. You know how it is.) They wanted me to take a seasonal rate of $5.00 per service, and they would disconnect my service for a month. I explained that the only season I knew about was Hurricane season and I didn’t see why I should pay anything for no service. Long story short it was easier to disconnect.

I went to the local phone company and signed up for DSL which should be turned on today sometime. I also called Direct TV and signed up for satellite service. Between the two I’m saving over one-hundred dollars a month. I was appalled at the lack of empathy by Spectrum. I even sent a letter to their CEO and got one of his minions to explain that they really didn’t have a policy covering outages. Anyway, the good news is Spectrum is still without service here and it looks like by the weekend I will be up and running.

Through it all, I managed to get Circumstances of Childhood up on Kindle and am waiting for the final proof of the paper edition. it should be good to go, but I want one final check. Today’s John Ku talks about Karma which I hope Spectrum understands that a whole boatload is coming their way if this is how they have treated all their Hurricane Harvey customers. It won’t be the good kind either.

As you would like done to you. . .

Karma is a bitch.

Have a great weekend.

  2. Smart move on the switch. What company doesn’t have outage policies or at least try to be understanding of such things? Especially hurricane prone areas. Guessing karma will get them by a large customer loss. Can’t see a lot of people sticking with them. That or a class action lawsuit.

    1. A lawsuit would be swell but I’m not sure you can sue a company for being heartless. Thanks, Charles.

      5. Forgetting the term, but I don’t think it’s legal to take advantage of such a situation. It could also be charging for undelivered services.

  3. I’m not familiar with Spectrum, but they sound like a bunch of jerks… Comcast gave me a bunch of nonsense *5 years ago*. I cut the cord on the spot and never looked back. Between Netflix and Youtube I have more good TV than I could ever watch. Perfect Johnku. TGIF hugs!

    1. They used to be Time Warner in our area. I think you have the secret, Teagan. We’ll give Direct TV a shot then maybe go to something else. 🙂

Oh my goodness, LOL, “Karma is a bitch.” I hope you have a wonderful weekend – with internet and television! 🙂 Your ingenuity amazes me; I could not do what you’ve been able to do.

    1. Sure you could. Necessity is the mother of invention and you have plenty of mother experience. Thanks, Gwen.

I have to echo Gwen’s comment, John. I know you can do all of these Internet tasks with the cell phone – but I refuse because it drives me crazy every time I try. I salute you, good sir! Unbelievable story about your former carrier – but I’m not surprised.

Unfortunately it is a lower level. No empathy – just greed.

Why would they have a policy for that? Outages never happen.

  11. I haven’t heard of Spectrum, but they sound like too many other lackadaisical companies providing services. It’s obviously not your fault that Harvey rolled in and took out the power. Instead of laying the blame on your shoulders, they should have worked with you. Glad to hear there’s light at the end of the tunnel, though. Have a wonderful weekend!

  13. Your experience makes me think about canceling our service with Spectrum, John. Despite their commercials claiming they’re so much more “caring and understanding” than Time Warner Cable, makes me want to barf! I’m furious!

    1. Yeah. I would hang on. Others are just as bad and then there is the hassle of returning all the hardware. Thanks for the sentiment though. 😀

Shame on that company! When we’ve been out for periods of times- during storms -the companies I’ve worked with have been open to refunds, even though storms aren’t their fault…the consumer shouldn’t be responsible either. Did you include Karma to the CEO?

I laughed harder than I should of over Karma…but SO true and I could apply it to a couple of people:) Have a great weekend!

  15. Wow, John. Glad to hear you’re getting things sorted out with some other companies. You’d think Spectrum would be thinking of the long-term gain and not a month or two of free service (which I’m sure they lose plenty on already due to signing discounts and whatnot). They need a new PR team…

  18. That’s just awful, John. I don’t blame you for dumping them. My winter project is to see how I can bring our cable bill into low-earth orbit. They’ve raised our rate three times this summer for no change in service.

    1. One of my complaints was they raised the price of the monthly charge on equipment already deployed in my house. I’ve never heard of such a thing. Hit up the new customers if need be but increased equipment charges on current customers? Outrageous.

  20. Wow. I hope Spectrum loses a lot of customers because of this. We had Comcast for a few years, but they kept changing the schedule and then charging us more and even when we went down to Basic, they were a pain-in-the-butt service. Finally we turned in our box and now just stream Netflix, Amazon, etc. through our DSL which we get through a different service provider. My husband did buy an inexpensive antenna that helps us get local stations so we can check the weather, but that’s it. All in all we probably pay close to what we used to with Comcast but at least now we can watch what we want to watch, not what Comcast tells us to watch 😉
