“John, you are letting those two get away with murder.”
“How so?”

“Of course.”

“Okay, you two. Um I mean, okay, Bailey. There was no clomping around.”
“Well, we were trying to catch a nap and Lucy heard something.”
“Meaning Stella.”
“Lucy’s agenda not mine. I only reported what Lucy said.”
“Did you ever hear of Carl Sandb— Oh, never mind. Take a nap.”
“As you can see Lucy follows your direction to the letter. Wait, what is that noise?”

So funny! That is the first poem I remember reading in school (3rd grade) and thinking, “Wow, a poem is cool!” I’d read poetry before at home, but this time it was that light bulb going off. BUT two of my cats are noisy when they “land.” A big UMPH.

Love that Sandburg quote and its clever juxtaposition between your pets. A comic book writer I used to enjoy wrote: my kitten walks on velvet feet / and makes no sound at all, / and in the doorway, nightly sits, / to watch the darkness fall. / I think he loves the lady, night, / and feels akin to her / whose footsteps are as still as his; whose touch, as soft as fur.
