Wednesday Story Day – AKA – Hump Day

Hump Day

It is Wednesday Story Day again, and last week we saw the PI Frank Plano get Seth’s goat. As we all suspect Seth looks like he has something to hide. At the very least he is out of sorts about something. I now see Frank has left Seth’s office and drove out to have a discussion with Harriet Murphy. Might be a good idea to go and see what he has to say to Harriet.

“Come in Mr. Plano. I have some coffee brewing in the kitchen. Follow me, and we can be more comfortable there.”
“The coffee does smell good, Mrs. Murphy lead the way.”
“You can sit there, Mr. Plano. How do you take your coffee.”
“Just a touch of cream if you have it.”
“I do, Mr. Plano. I just finished baking some oatmeal cookies so help yourself from that plate there.”
“My goodness, Mrs. Murphy you know how to treat a guest.”
“You can call me Harriet. Okay if I call you Frank?“
“That would be just fine. Mmm, this cookie is to die for.”
“Here’s your coffee. Take a sip of that with your cookie.”
“Ah. This is heaven. Thank you for seeing me, Harriet.”
“My pleasure Frank. What can I do to help you?”
“You are very close to the Severide boy aren’t you?”
“You mean Lucas? He’s not a boy Frank. He is an adult.”
“Yes. My apologies. he certainly is.”
“I understand he works for you.”
“Yes. He’s my painter.”
“And you are paying his medical and legal bills.”
“Legal bills? How did you find that out?”
“Harriet. I am surprised you should ask in that you have hired one of the best private detectives around.”
“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Let’s say you caught me on that.”
“So why are you doing all this for Lucas?”
“First of all he fell from my roof, and I think it is my responsibility.”
“And second?”
“I feel sorry for him losing his family and all.”
“How much do you know about that?”
“About what?”
“The death of his parents.”
“Nothing. Why do you ask?“
“There is a rumor going around about you and Mrs. Weston.”
“Rumor? What kind of rumor?”
“That you are, um shall we say, in a relationship.”
“What does that have to do with Lucas’ parents?”
“Oh, it may have nothing to do with Lucas’ parents if you and Alice are not covering up anything.”
“What are you saying Mr. Plano?”
“Wasn’t Alice taken in for drug possession.”
“So?”
“Weren’t you with her that night?”
“And if I was?”
“Didn’t the sheriff get her off?”
“I have nothing more to say to you, Mr. Plano. Please leave.”
“May I finish my cookie?”
“I think you can take it with you. Good day, sir.”

    1. Confusion is the mark of an enquiring mind, Keith. Also the result of devious writer.

  2. I like the bit of humor there John. The PI was concerned about finishing the cookie. He seems to be good at his job. The next episode should be even more interesting. 🙂 — Suzanne

  3. OK. now having to admit I’m not a good PI. Just what does Seth getting Alice off or her relationship to Harriet have to do with Lucas?

  4. He definitely has a knack for asking the questions that get him kicked out of a room. Probably a good thing for an investigator.

  5. Oh my. This web gets tighter and tighter as we get closer. I’m not sure if I should be following the train wreck in progress or the slow-moving freight in the hospital. I’m trying to pin this out in my head, but it hurts.

    Nice weaving, John.

      1. As in he always gets to the bottom of things or as in he takes forever to get there? It’s OK, I’m enjoying the ride.

At least Frank got to take his cookie with him – that would have been awful otherwise! Lots of people with stuff to hide! Well done, good sir!

  8. I’d say Frank hit on a very raw nerve with the good lady, Harriett, who bakes oatmeal cookies, has illicit affairs, and hides things. 🙂

  12. John, I’ve said it before, but you really are a crafty one…
I was worried about the PI at “Mmm, this cookie is to die for.” But then he hasn’t finished the cookie, so maybe he’s not out of the woods yet.
Yet why would Harriet seem upset by his questions if she basically hired him… I think ole Miss Harriet has more up her sleeves. Probably a lot more. 😀

Thanks for another delightful lunch break, John. Hugs!

And, I know, I have no right to step right in and announce that I have it all figured out, but, nonetheless, I’ve got it all figured out… The PI is going to… Aw, wait, I shouldn’t be giving it away!!! John, sorry I even thought about giving it away…we’ll keep it to ourselves…
