Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy Has a Question

“Hey, Boss.”

“Hi, Lucy. When you stand there like that, I know there is something on your mind.”

“How do you know I do not just adore you.”

“Um. I would say I just know. So what is the question.”

“Okay, then you caught me. I was wondering if that is Santa on the roof?”

“Santa? What makes you think Santa is on the roof?”

“Tell him, Bailey.”

“Well pops. We hear the pitter patter of pretty heavy deer up there.”

“I’m always amazed how you wake up from a sound sleep and seem to know what’s going on, Bailey.”

“Boss. Come over here and take a look.”

“Lucy. I don’t have to take a look.”

“Lucy’s not kidding, pops. You should see this.”

“Can’t you just tell me?”

“It looks like a bunch of elves delivering long pieces of metal.”

“That’s because they are the roofers, you two. Remember, the hurricane damaged our roof? These guys are fixing it.”

“But so much stuff, Boss. You should see it all.”

“I know, Lucy. They are replacing the whole roof, so there is a lot of stuff to put up there.”

“Can Bailey and I bark at them?”

“That would be a no. Lucy.”

“Beg for treats?”

“No.”

  1. I think my Trevor’s reaction would have been considerably less sanguine, John. He’s never yet asked for permission to bark, he even runs out of the door barking in case there’s something there that needs his intervention (generally, there isn’t).

    1. Bailey has the same tendency. She saw a jack rabbit one morning and still thinks it might be there. Thanks, Keith.

      1. I daren’t tell you how many years ago it was that Trevor found a mouse in our basement. He still barks like mad if either of us goes near the door, then rushes down and sniffs around the area where he found it. So does Eos now, and the incident predates her arrival by about three years!

Your pups’ expressions are always so endearing. Congrats on finally getting your roof replaced; four months is a long time to wait. Looks like something drinkable under the tree, maybe a celebration when the roofers leave. 🙂

  5. This reminds me of when our roof was fixed a few years back and my son kept wondering what was going on. He’d stare out the window too. Kids and dogs seem to have a lot in common.

  7. Wow… the whole roof. Ouch. And I shudder to think about the noise, so I don’t blame you for not wanting to add barking to it. But no begging for treats? Have a heart John. 😉 Although I wouldn’t want a roofer to fall from a ladder tossing treats to the dogs… Have a thriving Thursday!

    1. Thank you, Teagan. These guys are on a very restricted no grain diet. I could just see them hitting up a worker for a piece of sandwich. Driving Thursday to you as well. 🙂

  8. This whole thing is precious, but I really love the ending.

I hope the repairs go smoothly and are done quickly. We had to have a new roof put on a few years ago after a terrible storm (I think everyone in our subdivision needed new roofs). The noise is a headache, and it does break the dogs’ routine quite a bit. Wishing you a great day!

  9. So okay…. even though it is just roofers, do they still get presents?

You know…. those little meaty treats would be nice.

I’m glad the repairs are finally under way and hope all goes smoothly. It sounds like Lucy and Bailey will have a lot of watching to keep them entertained.

  15. John, your two are as shameless as my Dallas! He’d beg for anybody — pretty embarrassing to take him into the Home Depot or Petsmart, ha! Glad the roofers have arrived, just in time for the holidays. Hope they’ll finish before Santa comes.

Some things are more important this time of year – like making sure that Santa has something strong to land on next week! Lucy and Bailey the Mustang Island boxers are wondering what the roofing elves are up to! 😀

  21. Lucy is kind not to bark. I would have to bring Maddie to stay with you if we had roofers. She barks at me when I work outside.

I’m glad to see your roof is being fixed, John Step by step, you guys are putting Harvey behind you. Tell Lucy you’ll make sure the guys don’t cover the chimney.
