This week started the holiday season here in Port Aransas. Like everything else we do here, it was kicked off with a parade. The parade started about a half mile from the community center and ended there with hot cocoa, popcorn, cookies, coffee, and a visit by Santa. The evening was capped with live music and the lighting of the holiday tree. I apologize for the quality of the parade photos. The darkness fell and I really should have had a tripod. I think you can catch the spirit.
The Community center is ready for the Holiday festivities.
The elves are putting out the cookies.
Frosty is waiting to greet everyone.
Frosty’s brother is here too.
The parade and activities were sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
The tree is waiting to be lighted.

EMS is here.
A decorated golf cart.
A golf cart with red running lights.
A classic 1948 MG.
The lifeguards are here with a Santa float.
The real Santa on a hook and ladder.
One of Port A’s finest.
Looks fun. Shame the snow didn’t last 😉
Nice to see a classy and classic British car joining in the festivities.

Beautiful. You have the makings of a Hallmark film, don’t you think? Seriously, how the town has come together after the hurricane is a testimony of the best in human nature. 🙂

I think so too. The crowds are definitely thinner. Sadly, a lot of folks who lost their homes have moved away. Everyone is trying to keep the spirit alive but it becomes a challenge. Thanks , Gwen.

Stunning, dear John! True spirit of Christmas! And what an amazing name for a snowman: Frosty! I will keep it in mind.

Frosty is very famous her in the US. The blow up snowmen are in his likeness. Thanks, Marie. 🙂

Your town would make a great setting for a book, John. I love how the community celebrates together. Thanks so much for sharing! Happy Sunday!

Thanks, Jill. I do use Port A as a setting but never really get into the spirit of the town. Maybe I’ll do more of that in the next one. Super Sunday to you. 😀

You had me with the photo of the popcorn machine. Solves all kinds of problems.
Beautiful photos, John. I think you did a god job of capturing the spirit.
No running lights on the MG, which I can understand, having had a British car for 25 years.

Hard to capture in the dark too. The same car was in the Old Town parade as well.

In high school a friend of mine had a British Green MG. He was about six feet two and had to wear goggles when he had the top down since he stuck up so far above the windshield. His dad would not let him drive it in the winter because he had to squinch sideways to fit below the roof. A great car.

I had a ’79 Spitfire until about 2009. It needed to be restored, and I needed one less hobby.

Besides, the thing was only 4″ off the ground. Getting in and out was getting to be more of a challenge each year.

Really hard to get good nighttime pictures, but I enjoyed the parade, John. We had ours really early this year — I guess the organizers never can count on perfect weather here!

Love the cool looking Santa on top of the lifeguide’s vehicle, John. I guess he’s keeping in with who’s driving the vehicle. I wouldn’t have minded being behind the wheel of that MG anytime of the year.
