Thursday – A Little Personal – Beach Time

A Little Personal

“Well, Lucy. We finally have some time for a good old walk without freezing to death.”

“I know. I’m just wondering about the sun though. There isn’t any.”

A little personal

“I know, but think of it this way. No panting. Besides look up there. I see some sun.”

“I suppose you are right. We can’t have everything so we should be positive. Let’s go down by the water. Come on humans.”

A little personal

“Look at that Lucy.”

“What is it?”

“Take a sniff. What does it smell like?”

“Oh, it has a briny, fishy smell.”

“Yeah, you’re right. I wonder?”

“Wonder what?”

A little personal

“What it tastes like?”

“Muufff. Strong bouquet of fish. Definitely has mouthfeel issues along with a distinctive eel-like finish. Patoo. Not for me.”

A little personal

“I’ll pass too. Look over there. Shells”

“Hey neat. Good source of calcium.”

A little personal

“You two leave those shells alone.”

“Yes pops. What’s he doing, Lucy? I don’t want to look.”

“He’s fine.”

A little personal

“Have I ever shown you my bird dog imitation, Bailey?”

“No. I think you might need to work on it though.”

A Little personal

“How about my tracking bloodhound impersonation?”

“The same advice you gave me.”

“Okay, so who’s the wiseacre dropping plastic shampoo bottles in the Gulf?”

“I would love to test my locking jaw on their leg if I knew.”

“What do you say, humans? You had enough?”

“Yeah, Boss. Look at the cart over way down there. I would hate to have to carry you.”

“I guess you ladies want to go back, huh?”

a little personal

“Well, here we are, Bailey. I had fun. How about you?”

“Yes indeed. Thanks, parents for the walk.”

“Our pleasure, Ladies. I mean it happens every day but if you want to thank us that is very nice.”

“Hey, Lucy. I have a question.”

“Shoot.”

“How come your leash is always loose.”

“Trustworthy, Bailey. Trustworthy.”

  3. Great way to end it. With them on the shampoo bottle. Seems garbage always finds a way to the ocean.

    1. I remember when NYC used to dump garbage in the Atlantic. Do they still do that?

      1. They stopped doing that around 1990.

The last line is perfect – Trustworthy. Kinda gets to the heart of things, doesn’t it? Oh, the wisdom of our 4-legged family members. 😀

    1. Ha ha ha. Thank you, Gwen. I think I would buy a used car from Lucy. 😀

  6. Maddie is jealous of Lucy’s leash being on the ground. Of course, Maddie would be in Louisiana by now if that happened. She says to tell Lucy that the point is good, but she has to lift the leg higher for it to work. Humans aren’t good with subtle gestures.

    1. Ha ha ha. We once let Lucy off leash and she chased birds for a half a mile. When the leash is on the ground she thinks she can’t go anywhere. Tell Maddie thanks for the point pointer. 😀

      1. That’s funny. Maddie can be as calm as can be, but if we drop the leash, she’s gone with it flopping behind her.

  8. Unquestionably two canines met to be hunting dogs! … but they want some warm sun for some fun on the beach.

    1. Then when the sun is warm they think it is too hot. Can you say spoiled? Thanks, Frank.

  12. I would have given odds on it being Bailey who was the trustworthy one! 😀 Mind you, I always thought it was Benjie who the real ‘good boy’ until he went to doggie heaven & my bins haven’t got tipped over since..! 🙂 However, Toby has discovered how the touch-top kitchen-bin catch works, so a new avenue of mischief could be explored pretty soon! >< 😛

    1. I think you ought to get Toby a little bin of his own. 😀

      1. I would, but he has a tendency to eat plastic if it’s got the scent of food on it – and I eat far too much spicy food, even for a robust and curious puppy tummy… 😉

      2. Yes I agree. Dumb suggestion unless you filled the bin with healthy snacks.

  13. A lovely beach walk! The good thing about going to the beach in January is that it is almost deserted. Glad you could get out! Now all we need is sun.

  23. They had their outing for the day, and quite a diverse one with all their finds and taste-testing. It looks like Bailey could use a lesson from Lucy on leashes and staying put. I get the feeling she must be highly adventurous.

Fun post as always, John. Thanks for the stroll along the beach.
