Friday is here. (YAY) With the arrival of Friday starts the last project on our Hurricane Harvey reconstruction list. I am shuddering because this one will involve a lot of inconveniences, dust, and barking dogs. It is the total replacement of the floors on two levels of the house. It will require moving the furniture, lifting the baseboards, and then ripping out the previous floor. Obviously, this will need to be done while we are living here. To give you an idea of the before and after here is a photo of before.
The reason I picked this shot is it will give you an idea of the complexity of the project. All the baseboards have to be taken off. The objects on top of furniture have to be moved to someplace. Then the furniture moved as well. In addition, the refrigerator (in the background) has to go somewhere as well. The pantry and closet (white doors) floors need to be done too. Then the floor has to be taken up and the new one installed. Finally, the baseboards have to be reinstalled, caulked and painted. This action has to be duplicated throughout the house. So when the job is finished, I’ll take a shot of this area and we’ll see how they do. The flooring is delivered and needs to rest in the house for a couple of days so it gets used to the environment. (I hope it likes us)

Oh my goodness, your JohnKu is right-on. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Having faced the same because of a flood, the very thought brings chills. Facemasks, earplugs, fresh air, sunshine, and patience, may you have them in abundance.

Sorry you need go through this, but at least you won’t be living there. We’re living in a construction zone of our own choosing – tearing out carpet, laying flooring, etc. haha, I have a 3-piece wall unit in the hallway to walk by – knew I should have stayed on the diet!!!

First of all, I love that small cabinet!
As for all the work that goes into this endeavor, it’s sort of like writing. People will see the finished product while never considering (if they’re not writers) all the work that goes into that piece.
And I happen to love this haiku for how it hits me at the moment. It’s a sign. I like to think . . .

I’ve been putting off carpet replacement precisely because of the inconvenience. Eventually, it will have to be done, but I can ignore a good bit when I need to.

Oh, my. But what a GOOD thing it’s the last thing on your reconstruction list! I sympathize with the inconvenience, but enduring weeks of worry following the hurricane must’ve been worse and you all survived that. If Lucy and Bailey are like Dallas, they’ll make friends with the workers and demand a share of their lunches, ha!

Couple of babies. They get all emotional when they are apart from us. Their life is too short to give them any stress. So we are never apart.

So were our labs. Harry was a Baby Huey. Sharing the couch was 80% Harry. And yes, no stress is needed.

I lived without a kitchen and dining room for 6 weeks when we did a complete remodel. Just thinking about all that dust and chaos still gives me heebee jeebees 🙂

We did the same in California. Had to cook on a hot plate for two months. I’m now getting sweat on my upper lip thinking about it.

Best of luck with this. We underwent a full floor replacement last year due to a flood and it was NOT a fun process, but we really like the new floor.

I feel for you! We replaced all our floors five years ago in the entire house but one room, although not due to an event but age. Seemed like it went on forever moving furniture and rooms as thet ripped up and laid new floor– many late nights. But it was so worth it in the end. Perfect Johnku for it! Look forward to seeing the outcome!
