Views of the Neighborhood – A Sign of Peace

This week Port Aransas citizens got together to produce a large statement that is hoped to be viewed by the leadership of world countries as a desire for peace.

Peace

The important part of any peace statement is to accessorize appropriately. Tie-dye, check. Peace symbol on cheek, check. Peace sign on hand, check. Lei, check Adult beverage, check. There is one item missing.

Peace

Ah yes. A peaceful shade of pedi polish and a toe ring, check.

Peace

Looks like most everyone got the memo on dress code.

Peace sign

Quite an array of beach vehicles as well.

Peace

Here is one view of the peace sign. Check out the bike on the left side of the photo (You can’t tell it is a bike.)

Peace

A little higher view

Time to disperse. Notice the bike. Yup go back and look again.

One last shot of the folks leaving.

  1. Nice collection. How did you get the aerial shots?

    1. The aerial shots were published on the internet. My drone is still grounded due to pilot inexperience.

      1. That could do it. Those things are hard to handle from what I heard.

  2. John, I love the people peace sign! How did you get those photos? Our neighborhood of 55+-year-olds had a hippie fest a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, I didn’t get any pics – I was having so much fun I forgot to pull out my phone.

What a fun event. It looks like it brought together the residents and youthful memories, how perfect is that! Enjoy the sunshine, John. It looks like there’s plenty in Port Aransas right now. 🙂

Maybe, since it seems they did everything right, this will work. It can’t hurt.

  7. Far out, man — at least, the drone was far out. It looks like a fun event, but I must confess to being most entranced by those aerial views of the waves coming ashore. Beautiful. Your water surely is more attractive than ours: not as much river silt coming down.

    1. We only have the brown near the shore when the seas get rough in the spring and fall. Otherwise the water is clear. I noticed the Galveston water when I was there for the bookfest. I just assumed it was the same as Port A. I guess you are saying not so much.

      1. Not so much, for sure, thanks to the Sabine, the Brazos, the Colorado, the San Bernard…. You have to get out some distance to find blue water. It varies due to conditions, but 10-20 miles usually does it.

    2. Hi Linda, doesn’t the colour of the water also depend some on the angle the sun shines on it and on the angle yoy look at it? When we were sailing out of Galveston lately, we had some dull green/grey water, but also som nice blue [https://wp.me/p4uPk8-1gE]. I agree. though, that, when you look closely at it, as closely as to straight down at it, you’ll certainly see that it’s not nice and clear but silty.
      Enjoy your Sunday,

      1. The tide makes a big difference, too, as well as the winds. Alternating north and south winds can churn things up, especially when fronts follow each other within a few days, with no time for the waters to settle. Sometimes Gulf waters will make it up into the bay, but even more often aerial views show the rivers pouring silt out into the blue/green waters, especially after heavy rains — even far inland. And certain seasons make a diffence. Shrimpers trawlling the bay or offshore can churn things up during shrimping season, too.

      2. Your answer, Linda, just proves again what so many human beings forget: the coast is a very complicated ecosystem, and thus not one to mess with.
