Friday JohnKu – AKA TGIF

Memorial day

American flag flying in the wind

This day, once it is, complete will kick off a three-day weekend. Everyone deserves the promise of time off to honor those who gave so much. As I sit and think about what Memorial Day means to me, I get a profound feeling of gratitude for those who gave their lives that I might be able to live my life in peace. There is nothing I can do to repay their gift other than to pause and remember how dear the sacrifice. So I shall. Today’s JohnKu is a memorial.

Too soon came the call,

For you to offer yourself. . .

To protect our life.

Enjoy the weekend.

  1. Always feels a bit weird saying happy Memorial Day. Feels like this should be a more somber weekend instead of a party time.

    1. Charles, I agree that “Happy” is not the word to use. I often say to have a respectful Memorial Day or remember on Memorial Day.

  2. It’s always important we remember the sacrifices made on our behalf by others. In some cases the ultimate sacrifice. I hope though that we never again need the the reason to thank a new batch who have to make that sacrifice. Enough is enough. The killing should stop on all sides.
    Hugs

I hope the party-goers on the beach don’t interfere with your holiday. Hugs.

  17. It’s so easy to go about our daily lives forgetting why we can. I was lucky to have heard the stories from my great-uncle and his time served during World War Two. I never forgot those stories nor did I forget the tears in his eyes when he said to much. He had an imaginary line that he knew he shouldn’t cross but sometimes he did.

It’s a special day and sometimes we need to stop and remind ourselves of that.

    Thank you.
