Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Bailey

“I’ll bet I can make you blink, Lucy.”

“You know short stuff I have been in staring contests with cats and walked away a winner.”

“Yeah but you’ve never been under the control of Super Frenchie.”

“Tell you what. Bailey has been dying to play a game. Go do a staring contest with her. She’s easy.”

“Hi, Bailey. I’ll bet I could win a staring contest.”

“I’m sure you could, Little One. Right now I’m wondering about that black plastic wire on the fence.”

“Oh that. Dad put that all around.”

“Why?”

“Last week the neighbor was walking his dogs.”

“Oh, I get it. They tried to get in?”

“No. I actually ran through the fence and gave them what for.”

“What did pops do?”

“Ha ha ha. It makes me laugh when I think about it.”

“Tell me.”

“He jumped over the fence to stop me and had an accident.”

“An accident? Was he hurt?”

“Not really but he fell down flatter than a pancake. Like this.”

“Oh dear. How did you do with those dogs? They are pretty big.”

“The neighbor held em on the leash.”

“Well, that was good. You know Pops isn’t getting any younger.”

“Couldn’t prove it by me.”

“What do you mean?”

“He popped up and grabbed me like I was a fumble on the five-yard line and then ran in for a touchdown.”

“So he saved you.”

“I guess. After I saw how big those dogs were, I kinda lost my desire to bring ’em down.”

“I guess Pops doesn’t like five-yard touchdown runs given the black wire.”

“I’m a little glad since I can now act out without fear of having to perform. How about that contest?”

“How about a nap?”

“*Yawn.* Great idea.”

  1. Impressive feat. What does the black wire do?

    1. It makes it impossible for her to go between the bars. It will be there until she is too big to squeeze through.

      1. Oh, it’s for Twiggy. I have no idea why I thought the dog who got out was Bailey. I just imagined you leaping over the force and picking her up when I read this. Now it makes a lot more sense.

I hope you are alright John, after falling flat on your face like that? Twiggy was grateful I am sure… hugs for you all. Xx

    1. Not sure she was grateful but glad she was safe. I am fine. Thanks for the good wishes.

  3. Oh no! Are you okay, John? None of us are getting any younger, are we? Be careful!

    1. No we are not. The idea of a 77 year old coot leapng over a fence caused my dear wife apoplexy. I tried to keep it a secret but the neighbors blabbed. (hard to hide a broken toe too)

Great dialogue, John. “grabbed me like I was a fumble” — what an image. I hope you’re okay after the fall. Is the black wire a steel net to keep Twiggy inside? Hope so, she’s full of energy and curiosity. Have a fantastic day. 🙂

    1. The black wire is plastic. Broken toe and bruises is all. She is full of energy for sure.

  7. I take it the black wire’s netting rather than electrification. I hope so. If the black wire doesn’t work, I’d hate for you to be flat on the ground and quivering from the shock! I do enjoy these little tales, and I hope you’ve recovered sufficiently to fine it humorous, too.

    1. Ha ha ha. Yes it is just netting. Other than a broken toe and nasty bruises, it is all pretty funny.

      1. A broken toe?! Ow! Just the thought makes my toes hurt in sympathy. I like the black netting. Very stylish and probably more reliable than electrical fencing. Twiggy looks like she’s settling in very nicely 🙂

  9. I’m glad you weren’t badly hurt, John. I won’t add insult to injury reminding you about…OK, I said I wouldn’t do that. I love the story from Twiggy’s point of view, she is a rambunctious little girl. It won’t be long until you can take the netting down.

We have so many unplanned additions to our house and yard that were designed to keep a dog in or a puppy out.

  12. After falling and breaking a bone in my foot two weeks ago, I hope you did not suffer any lasting injuries from your impressive jump and rescue! Aw, the dogs are so sweet – and so wonderful that they get along with each other.

    1. Thanks, Noelle. Just a broken toe. Nothing lasting. I hope yours is doing okay. 😀

  13. “He popped up and grabbed me like I was a fumble on the five-yard line and then ran in for a touchdown.” Sorry to laugh at your expense, John, and I do hope you weren’t seriously hurt, but I had tears over this one!! What a way with words you have, my friend!

As for Twiggy, why is it that the little ones are the feisty ones? Every time I walked Dallas, the big dogs sort of left him be, but those little ones always “attacked.” Guess they don’t see size!

    1. I think it might be a size complex of some kind. She was fearless running after those dogs. Glad you had a laugh.

  14. Hope you’re alright, John – guess the girls have trained Twiggy pretty well regarding her territory. Just maybe judge the size of the opponent a little better first.

  16. Oh, wow. In hope you’re okay, John. Twiggy is a rambunctious little thing, isn’t she?

This description is hysterical: “He popped up and grabbed me like I was a fumble on the five-yard line and then ran in for a touchdown.” What we don’t do for our four-legged friends!

I’m glad you caught Twiggy in time and hope you weren’t injured!

  18. Horsefeathers, John. I’ve broken a toe a couple of times and it hurts… for quite a while. But as a very clumsy person, I’ll not join the chorus of “be careful”… but I guess I just did.
So, if Bailey and Lucy thought those other dogs were big… Applesauce! How big were they? o_O Great big hug!

  21. Able to leap tall buildings (fences) in a single bound. Catching the fumble on the five yard line and scoring a touchdown. Is Bailey telling Twiggy some tall tales? Great post, John.
