This week was to be a pirate parade in honor of “Talk Like A Pirate” day here in Port Aransas. Unfortunately, the parade had to be canceled due to rain. We did get a lot of rain Friday and yesterday. Invest 95L dropped about eight inches before it was over. So instead of a parade here are a few shots of the results of the rain.
This is the pond behind our house. Up to now, this is as far as it rose.
The pond is within its banks.
Given the high tides due to water being pushed against the dunes the city moved all the portable toilets to higher ground.
You can see the tides came up to the dunes.
This is Twelfth Street in Port Aransas. The water did not reach any of the houses. That pile to the left is a house recently torn down due to Hurricane Harvey damage.
The golf course needed pumps to get the water off the greens.
The city put up high water warnings where necessary.
Drainage ditches are very full. Luckily the rain quit last night.
Closer to home here is a shot of the access to the beach and the golf cart path and parking area. You can see some timbers have been dislodged. The white fence surrounds the pool, and the dark structure is the new shade structure recently completed. All Harvey repairs. Sorry about the parade but thanks for getting wet with me on the tour.

Good pictures, John. This is a big improvement over what’s happening in the Carolinas. My son said they will probably get rain but they don’t live near a flood zone so should be okay. 🙂 — Suzanne

Thanks for sharing your photos, John. It’s nice to hear the rain has stopped. Florence is still dumping rain on us here in Charlotte. Our kitchen bay window and the surrounding hardwood is taking the brunt of the storm…so far. Thankfully we still have power this morning. Happy Sunday!

LOL! That would make a good song, John. The ceiling has about another hour or two before it caves in. Unfortunately, we have at least 12 more hours of heavy, training rains.

Maddie doesn’t mind it, but when we come in, she goes through gyrations to make sure we dry her head first. After that, she dones’t care.

Now I understand the term, raining on your parade. Even here in Spain, on the coast where it seldom rains, we had a flash storm yesterday. We had a moat in front of our house. Too bad we don’t have a drawbridge. All dry now and sun out again!!

I wondered how you were faring. We’ve had days and days of rain, but you got the brunt of 95L. The sun came out here yesterday, and is bright this morning, and I hope all of that mess clears out soon for you, too. As I’ve heard more than one person say, October can’t come quickly enough.

On the one hand I’m happy you finally got your much-needed rain, but on the other hand 8″ IS quite a lot. But it looks like there was no real damage. Thanks for showing the situation.
Here, we had quite a few rainy days, and we may get even mire, but it never was a downpour – more like a modest and beneficial rainfall. Nature is relieved and happy.

I am glad the only casualty was a cancelled parade! Here my rain barrels, buckets and jugs are full and the hummingbirds kept swarming my three feeders. The sun is out this morning so it is time to dry out. Good photos! Enjoy the sunshine.

We haven’t had any serious rain here in what seems like months. People tell me we need some soon, but all I can see is that I’ve been relieved of grass-cutting duties all summer long!

Mercy, that’s a LOT of rain, John!! Here’s hoping the sun returns and gives you some relief from the downpours and gray skies. Isn’t it a pity we can’t find a way to harness the rains and share them with the folks out west who are suffering from wildfires?

Gosh, John, quite scary to have this flooding so soon after the last natural disaster in your town. Was flooding always a problem or is this a recent thing?

Heavy rains always produce a degree of flooding. We had 14 inches in 24 hours which is a lot.
