This weekend was the annual Harvest Moon Regatta. This is a sailing race from Galveston to Port Aransas. The distance covered is about 150 miles. The race used to begin on Friday and end on Saturday, but this year it began on Thursday. Some captains asked if they could use their motors. Here is the answer. “No. This is a sailboat race. In the past, the race started on Friday, and some motoring was allowed in case the winds were light, and people were not able to finish in time to make it to the awards ceremony. The race now starts on Thursday; motoring is not allowed, except for emergency purposes. (Note: While you may disagree, the Race Committee does not consider getting to Port Aransas in time to party Friday night, to be an emergency!)
I hope you enjoy the photos.

A vendor tent with equipment like generators and radar units.
This one is for Dan Antion. Big ole ship.
This is not a participant but looked good navigating the channel.
Like the fact this boat has a Sugarland home. (there is no salt water near Sugarland.)
A shot of some of the boats that took part.
Another boat from a landlocked city.
I liked this shot for the flag.
This Marilyn Monroe flag caught my eye.
A boat from Annapolis Maryland.
A group of catamarans
The Producer says this is her kind of boat.
This crew was a little puzzled since there were a few lines out of place.
Lots of flags
These were displayed at a booth selling boat photos of participants.
This is the tent where the victory party took place Saturday night. Hope you enjoyed the tour.
Looking good John. No rain either.

Looks splendid, John. After a long, hot summer stretching through to late October, the temperature has dropped by about 15°C over the past three days, and we woke up to a 5cm coating of snow this morning!

Brrrrrr. Not for me. Of course it is beautiful to look at.

It looks like a fun event, John. Though I don’t know much about boats, these are beautiful. I’m usually at the t-shirt table; sometimes you can find treasures. :D.

What fun! It amazes me the different passions people have and that they are willing to spend thousands to satisfy that passion. Great photos, John. Thanks for sharing.

Boss,
No . . partying is never an emergency situation. However, partying IS an obligation, so they are correct in that anyone wishing to partake should plan accordingly . . .
Great shots as per skipper!

I think the Producer and I would get along famously! Now, if we can find a crew for such a fabulous vessel, we’d be all set (because I know absolutely zilch about sailing, ha!)

I really enjoyed these pictures, John. I used to race small sailboats (not like these) and went to many regattas. Loved your commentary too, especially about the motoring part! Looks like a lot of fun.

Brrr! Boats. They’ve always put fear into me, John. I may live by the seaside, but I stay well away from the boats. Great shots, though. Hope you enjoyed the party.

Hmmm. I wonder the root of such a fear. Allergic to cavier perhaps.

This was a great entry, particularly since I’ve been there for so many races in the past. Beyond that, so man of the names, faces, and boats are part of my daily life. It’s like seeing my neighborhood transported to Port Aransas — wonderful photos.

I did enjoy the tour. I like the images of the sailboats in the marina a lot.
I like that Marilyn flag too, I wondered if the boat’s name matched the flag or if there was a theme going on there? In any case, it seems unique.
