Every year the Art Center of Port Aransas has n art show featuring the art of high school and middle school students. The competition is juried and open to students from Port Aransas, Flour Bluff, and Seashore Academy. I thought you would like to see the level of art being taught in the local schools. I don’t have too many comments as the art can speak for itself.
Let’s start with the sixth grade. Where you see a ribbon that student’s piece took a prize
Another view.
Seventh grade.
Eighth grade
Ninth Grade
Tenth Grade
Eleventh Grade

The Best in Show is the purple ribbon.
As you can see there is a large turnout. Here in Port Aransas art is taken very seriously. I hope you enjoyed the walk through the Art Center.
Wow.
These kids are already on their way to tapping their full potential.
And I can’t even draw a stick figure…

Very nice, John. I’m glad to see a show for students. When our daughter was in high school, the art teacher always hung a show in the entrance hall during other events. It made the art students feel good (usually).

I can imagine the kids felt good. Sounds like a teacher who cares.

It’s so good to see the kids involved with the arts, too, regardless of their level of talent. I must say, though — you have a lot of talented kids.

They are. I think these teachers know their stuff to be able to pull out that talent. Each grade level only has about thirty kids. So ten pieces of good art out of thirty kids is amazing. In highschool art is an elective so that reduces the pool even more.

This was really fun, John. I enjoyed seeing the kids’ work.
It seems the judges were partial to the black and white sketches.
I really like that 9th grader’s demon cat (sorry if that’s not what it is… I like it regardless). Thanks for letting is go with you. Mega hugs.

I love seeing such amazing talent in our young people. The blue ribbon art in the last photo is absolutely amazing. I can read so many things into it. And, I agree with Teagan. I loved the crazy cat the 9th grader created. Thanks for sharing, John!

When you think there are only 35 kids in each grade it becomes more amazing.

Interesting to see such a wide-range of styles at this age. I wonder how many of them will keep it up (even as a non-competitive personal hobby).

I wish I had been able to draw like that when I was their age, John. In my final art exam, my teacher put on my school report, that went to my parents, ‘Hugh draws like a three-year-old!’
Thanks for sharing the great art show.
