Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Well, it is Friday, and like most holiday weeks it came up fast. Always seems strange to have a new year. I keep putting 2108 on things that require a date. I should be squared away sometime in July.

In moving around WP lately, I’m wondering if all of you who have ad-supported blogs realize what is being advertised. This photo is one I have wondered about.

Manscaping

To each his own I guess.

Since we are starting a new year, this week’s JohnKu talks to expectations.

The New Year by John W. Howell © 2018 2019

A new beginning,

Time for new expectations . . .

Fresh chance for success.

  1. Ah, ha, ha. Any man trimming below the waist better he paying close attention. If the censors here in India are paying attention to my blogs I doubt any ad of the kind above will get through. I don’t have a clue what ads are on my blogs when they get to their destination. I haven’t had any complaints so I guess they’re not shocking anyone. 😀 — Suzanne

Oh my gosh, that’s an image that’s hard to forget! I wonder what his partner(s) think of such foolery? Have a fantastic year, John – with calm weather, great health, plentiful readers, and lots and lots of laughter. 😀

  3. I have caught the ads on my blogs once in a while and to tell you the truth, I’m surprised WP allows a couple of them!! I just keep hoping people don’t mis-understand and think I put those pictures in there!!

      1. Wow, that doesn’t seem possible. My blog is one of the free ones.

      2. I never noticed. I’ll check next time.

  4. Glad I read the explanation for that image before I scrolled down. I can’t see the advertisements on my own blog, which is frustrating. Wonder how they decide on what goes to each blog. If it’s random then that could be a problem for the blogger.

    1. I think it is random but you don’t have to worry. I never see ads on yours. You may have a premium account.

  5. Joyful hopeful haiku, John. Yes, this is why I pay to NOT have ads placed in my blog. Yikes – who selects these things???? Happy New Year!

  6. I turned off the WordPress ads that appear at the bottom of posts on my blog, not because I didn’t know what was being advertised, but because some of my readers said the ads were distracting and spoiling their reading experience. Blog posts that contain gifs do the same for me. All I had to do was put a tick in a box in the ads section, and now they no longer appear at the end of each post.

  7. I do love a nice, new year, but I’ve noticed it beginning to get away from me already.I have managed to make the change to 2019 on a couple of checks, though. I’m entirely too proud of that.

As for the ads, I’ve reported a few I’ve found on other people’s blogs to WordPress. They really weren’t acceptable. It’s one reason I paid for the no-ads upgrade in the beginning, and have continued it. Beyond the ads sometimes being objectionable (to me, at least), they’re always distracting: especially when they’re not at the bottom or side of the page.

    1. I agree on the ads, Linda. I pay not to have them as well. This one was the worst.

  9. The ads are even in the email notifications I get from some blogs. You’re right; some of them are… interesting.

I’m with you; it’ll take me months before I’m writing the correct year. Probably in time to have to start writing the next one. Time sure is moving fast these days.

  10. John,

What bugs me most of all? This “manscaping” term. I mean, it’s like all of today’s terminology is straight off an Applebee’s menu! It’s a high wire act below the belt people, get it right.

  11. We’re only one week into 2019 and I’m already behind. Sigh.
Oh, well, at least it keeps me moving ahead, LOL.

I pay to keep ads off my blog but um, yeah, I’ve seen some crazy ones on other sites. Oy!

  13. I have yet to write 2019. It is on one folder here on the computer. And on at least one tag in the photo software. Writing it might not come so easy. Then again I have until 2020 to get it right. And it could just take that long to get it right. As for the commercial there is just so much to un-see and un-hear these days. Let’s just hope the guy doing the add did not have to un-sneeze.

  14. Some of the ads are bizarre, and I have no idea what they put on mine. I could probably log off, then check as a random viewer. I wonder what they charge for those ads???

  17. And that is why I pay for premium… none of that shizzle on my blog, thank you very much. As to this whole “manscaping” thing – poor men who want to remain men feel the need to take it all off…I dunno…

New year, fresh start, new beginnings, from the heart…

  21. I went through my checks and added 2019 to half of what’s left in there so I won’t be writing 2018 on them for the next month. This little trick has helped me make the writing change a breeze in years past.

    New adventures await!

      1. I’m still writing a few every month, but like you not too many anymore. Only a few of the businesses I frequent are keeping it “old school” and prefer checks or cash.

      3. I hear ya, but Diva Dog’s groomer and my electrologist only take checks or cash.
Honey aka Diva Dog passed away December 31st so there’s one less check I’ll be writing. I’d rather write one every month though if I could have her back healthy. 😭
