Another Friday which signals another weekend. (YAY) This last week saw the manuscript delivered to the editor. The title is The Predator a world domination fight to the finish. It is a sequel to The Contract, and in it, Gwen and I hope to answer some questions raised in the first book. It looks like we will be ready to publish in June, God willing and the creek don’t rise. We are currently working on a blurb and the cover. We’ll give you some more info when we have something to share.
That is all the exciting news from here. I have begun my next book which will be a solo effort. I want to give you the last three lines since that is where I always start. Here they are,
“I don’t think any of that matters anymore, my son. Now that you know the truth.”
“But how could you keep this kind of secret from me.”
“To see you grow and prosper was worth any deception. Now come on. We have much to discuss.”

I always have the end of a story finished before I start writing the beginning and middle, John. It always seems to work better for me. It’s almost like writing a story backwards. I guess it is.

An ending that leaves us wanting more. So you always start with your ending? Does it ever change once you get there? Curious minds want to know…
As for the Haiku. Yes. Don’t be jamming your own openings…

The last three lines change sometimes but the ending is always the same. For some reason it is easier for me to have the ending in mind. Works as a guidepost for the rest of the book.

You always start with the LAST three lines? Hmm, maybe I need to give that a try. It’s the beginnings that typically grab my interest first. I never considered writing from back to front — maybe I should. Whatever works, right? (and these few words are immediately interesting!)

Yes. I start with the last three lines. They don’t always survive intact but show me the ening destination.

It’s fascinating to me that you start with your ending. I’ve never done that. Do they always end the way you expect, or do you find you have to change some or all of them?

The lines do change but the end result stays pretty firm. Think of it as a guiding light at the end of a dark tunnel. If you walk towrds the light all seems well even if you are in total blackness at the time.
