“Hey, Dad. It’s Friday. How about a toss?”
Friday has come again. YAY. It looks like everyone is going to share in the cold front moving from the Northwest. Temps are going down and snow possibilities going up. This always reminds us that winter is still with us. Somehow we seem to forget that little fact. Sure, there is a lovely day here and there. Just enough to make us believe we will have an early spring. My advice is to not fall for it. Only assume it will be cold until April and your mind will rest easier. Like a free lunch, there is no such thing as an early Spring.
Today’s JohnKu talks about Winter. By the way, the term JohnKu was coined a few years ago by Kimberly at https://words4jp.com/ She is a poet, and when I started doing my version of a Haiku, she suggested delicately that maybe what I was doing was a JohnKu more than a classic Haiku. Ever since then I have been grateful for the suggestion. Kimberly is now back to blogging and certainly worth a visit.

A Robin arrives,
Our heart soars thinking its Spring . . .
Twelve degrees tonight.
Have a great weekend.
Guess it’s a good thing that we don’t have that trick up here. It’s freezing and we have a storm coming. Not fun.

Stay warm, John. Here in Florida I embrace the cold temperatures because our summers are always too long and hot and humid. But our temps will seem balmy compared to my NY hometown 😬 Have a great weekend!

We’ve gotten cool here, but shucks, no threat of snow. I would love the see the look on the girls’ faces if they saw snow!! 🙂

Single digits are forecasted in our area, and I find myself dreaming of California sunshine. As you mentioned, there’s no early spring. 😦

12 degrees tonight? In your town? You’ve got to be kidding! Then again, toss the ring many times to stay warm.

That a definitely chilly for you guys… pretty normal for us guys… takes a lot more for us to believe spring is coming so we bundle up and bitch and complain till April!
Have a fabulous weekend!

We really don’t get twelve degrees. It was an over blown example. That’s how it feels.😁

I was gonna say… you forgot the C for Celsius 😉 coz that would make more sense in your neck of the woods…

Also twelve is a one beat word. If I said fifty it would be two and I would be over the five. 😎

We even have colder weather here in the Western Ghats of India. It gets down to about 50 degrees F or below during winter. I have a small floor heater as we don’t have interior heating. I use a couple quilts at night. Keep warm. That’s a cute picture of the puppy, John. 😀 — Suzanne

I think I’ve learned how to beat the cold. Go someplace colder, freeze my ass off, then come home and be plenty fine with twenty five degrees.
Or. Sleep until April.

There you go. I like the second choice.

I’ll take a twenty four hour hiatus on March 17th in order to observe the Holy Day, and then back to bed!

Ah, hyperbole! If that twelve degrees were right, I’d have to change my entire day around and start hauling plants. The good news is that it’s just going to be cold, rather than deathly cold. But you’re right that winter ends a lot later than most of us would want. When the pecan trees finally leaf out, then it’s over.

Yes, My poem was not what it is but what it feels like.

To be honest, it starts feeling like twelve degrees to me when it gets below forty. If a strong east wind’s in play, make that forty-five.

I was told a benefit to moving south was the weather. If I’m going to get snow down here, I want a refund.
Love the JohnKu. Have a warm weekend!

Somewhere behind all those clouds there is supposed to be major lunar eclipse this weekend.

We haven’t seen the sun in over a week, but it hasn’t been all that cold yet. Looks like Sunday will change that.

A lingering winter is bad enough – but how about those winters that just won’t go away? Like 32 inches of snow on May 6th?

We are certainly getting a taste of the cold front over here, John. Have a good weekend.

We have a nasty mess heading our way this weekend, John. According to the latest forecast, we won’t be lucky enough to see 12, or any other double-digit number on Monday. But, as you say, it’s not spring, and we shouldn’t fall for the promise of mild temperatures in January and February. Now, get out there and toss that Frisbee for Twiggy.

I hadn’t heard the history behind the term ‘JohnKu’ and I find it fascinating. I’ll have to pop over to Kimberly’s for a visit! Stay warm, my friend — I know forty-five feels like zero when you’re on the beach, but that’s so much better than what they’re predicting for us!
