Views of the Neighborhood – Bollard People

Last year I featured the bollard in Port Aransas being covered by crochet wraps. There were about thirty the previous year and more than one hundred and thirty this year. The creator of this display is Diana Vondra and a host of helpers. They are being called the “Bollard People for reasons you will see in a moment. There are some photos, and I could not put them all in this post. Also, the sun was at an Eastern angle so for you to see the faces I had to manipulate the photos a little.

Bullard People

Here’s one that looks like a superhero.

This is a view of the way they look when you drive up.

Another shot of a group of them.

Wise one.

Pink.

Looks like an ode to Saturday morning.

Mama in her curlers.

Delighted.

Dignified.

Lost.

Happy.

An author I’ll wager.

Hates to wear glasses.

“May I take your order?”

“Put all the money in this bag.”

Frosty’s youngster.

The sister.

Do Bee.

Ladybug.

Grandma.

Of course, they are from Minnesota.

  10. Your descriptions are hilarious. You absolutely pegged some ‘types’ like the waiter. I absolutely loved ‘Lost’ — and the whole set of them is a delight. Are there enough bollards left for the exhibit to expand next year? I suspect even more people will be inclined to participate, or participants will get even more clever ideas.

    1. Yes there are enough for next year’s expansion. This could take over all the bollards. The creator also said these could be worn on heads as well. By the way, no one steals these, which is amazing.

  17. These are so cute, John. Are they for decoration or do they have a specific purpose like the pink bows on trees for cancer?

  22. These are simply delightful, John! I love the writer best, of course, but the Vikings display takes second place (even though I’m not a Vikings fan!). What a clever idea. Reminds me of the “pole people” we have up here, where some group or other paints wooden utility poles as members of the city’s football team, various community professionals, or whatever. How long do they leave them up?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. They are up a month, Debbie. Thanks. Your utility pole thingy sounds interesting.
