Views of the Neighborhood – City Wide Garage Sale

We had a city-wide garage sale yesterday in Port Aransas. It was a massive affair. Take a look at the map in the link below.

2019CWGS

So I’m going to give you a flavor by visiting a few places.

Views of the Neighborhood

Here is a private home. Looks pretty much like any garage sale.

Let’s follow these folks to the Civic Center.

Man, what a selection

Cosmetics

Hats.

Tables of stuff.

And my neighbor doing volunteer work raising money for her church. That’s her with the big smile.

Here is a shop.

And a garage sale participant just setting up.

On the main street in a parking lot.

Those yellow balls are locally raised Ruby Red grapefruit. $0.50 each or a dozen for five bucks.

A back shot of the sellers.

A close up of a reminder about time. None of my books were on the table.

Spices, preserves, and salsa.

Back to a home garage. Gulf cart for sale.

I hope you liked the taste of our community event.

  1. I think I’d have been in my own personal heaven yesterday John. I’ve never been too a garage sale but together they would have been what we call a car boot sale and that’s the way I love to spend a Sunday.

    1. I didn’t see any food sellers. I didn’t hit all 38 stops though.

  5. Thank you for sharing. It’s been years since I have been to a garage sale or community event. I have recently donated lots of goods to charity.

  6. I’ve been to a garage sale and an auction and I love that kind of thing. When I was a child I had a great aunt who would bid on a mystery box at an auction and find out after getting it what it contained. A couple of times I got what she didn’t want. 🙂 — Suzanne

    1. I’ve never gone into a mystery box bid. Tempted but didn’t do it. Thanks, Suzanne.

  8. This garage sale looks better than the ones in our neighborhood. Your neighbor looked happy to see you. Did you bring her some coffee? Great turnout…thanks for sharing! Happy Sunday!

    1. I did not. All my caps have a story and I don’t need any more.

  10. There’s a Homer Laughlin piece on the table you’re neighbor’s sitting next to. If I’d been there, I would have been tempted to buy it . I grinned at the pair of stepladders, too. I suspect they’re leftovers from a bit of repair work somewhere along the line!

    1. Those were serious ladders. We have a few Fiesta pieces left from a complete set. (cream and sugar and a couple of bowls) We sold most of them at the garage salses in years past. The midwesterners love Fiesta. (We used it as our everyday china until we move to the coast. We now have plain white.)

  11. Who doesn’t love a garage sale?
And man, could I ever use that golf cart; it’d make getting to work easier.
Fun Fact: I drove around in a golf car at the first property I ever worked at as a bellman.
    It was awesome.

  15. Checklist:
    1- Rent a van
2- Ask Linds B if I can borrow her water tank of a water bottle so’s I can fill it with java.
    3- Comfortable shoes
4- Pack light so’s there’s more room in the van
5- Reward myself for all my finds with a seafood dinner.

    Thanks Boss!

  16. Oh, fun — a city-wide garage sale. How cool. I would have gotten that black cap with a bright pink flamingo. 😉 👒 🦩
I haven’t thought about ruby-red grapefruit in a long time, but they are wonderful. Thanks for letting us tag along, John. Have a sublime Sunday. Hugs!

  17. Now that is my kind of huge garage sale! But I need to be getting rid of some of my own stuff. I would love to have had some of those Ruby Red grapefruits – locally grown are the best.

What fun! I have always enjoyed garage sales. Of course your books aren’t on that table…no one would sell them, they would keep them on their book shelves.

  23. Talk about making a day of it!

In my town, every third weekend of the summer months is garage sale day. If this potential buyer comes through, I have to be out of my house by May 1st! Oy… looks like I’ll have a garage sale once I move, meaning I have to lug too much schtuff with me… sigh.

      6. The romance of the sea has been overshadowed by the curse of the tourests. If we need to be around people I would at least like to be around those who don’t throw everything they don’t want on the beach.

        Liked by 1 person

      7. That is too bad – but understandable for the tourists. And I will never understand why they don’t pick up after themselves. We never left anything behind…
