“So Lucy. Come over and see this thing.”
“Be right there Little One.”
“Oh that. It’s called a rake, and that black thing is a bag.”
“So dad rakes the leaves and puts them in the bag?”
“Yeah. Notice you can see the Vinca Minor now. Before it was covered with leaves.”
“I don’t see any grass. I thought maybe it was covered with leaves too.”
“Well, Little Potato we don’t have a lot of grass. I know the boss is working on a landscape plan.”
“Do you think we’ll have grass again? I loved the grass on the coast.”
“I know he is planning some for the other side of the house. This area is going to be flowers and granite path.”
“But we can’t go over to the other side of the house.”
“After the fence is in we will be able to. Don’t worry. Oh, Look. The boss is back on the rake.”
“Maybe if I help pick up some leaves it will go faster, Dad.”
“I think you should go ahead and play with Lucy.”
“Hey, dad. Those people have guys picking up their leaves. Why don’t you do that?”
“I love to work in the yard, Little One. I don’t want a gardener.”
“Well suit yourself then. When will the fence be done?”
“With the permit and design work, it will probably be the end of the month.”
“Seems like a long time. Hey is that Lucy heading for the house?”
“Sure looks like it kiddo. Better run and catch up.”
“Doesn’t it feel good to rest after a hard day’s work, Lucy.”
“Um, what? Sure is nice to rest anytime. Close your eyes, Twiggy.”
Those two are so utterly adorable. Love the way they sleep together!

Yes it is true. We had all the brush cleared out and are now getting the leaves, rocks, and sticks picked up. Thanks, Robbie.

They’re so cute, all snuggled up after a hard day of work. And Twiggy’s innocence as she explores is adorable. You narrate so beautifully and always help me start my Thursdays with a smile.

A good lesson at that. Ending with a nap, that is. 😀

If you enjoy garden work, you have just the yard to satisfy your urges — not to mention a couple of willing helpers. Flowers and gravel for the humans and grass for the dogs reminds me of a great song that celebrates meeting everyone’s needs:
“Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses.”

That song is part of out road trip mix. We love it. (along with “On the Road Again,” of course.

Lots of leaves you have there, John. And Lucy and Twiggy remind me of our animals, dogs as well as cats: they are always nosing around. But do they help? – NO!!! 😀

They make you smile though. There are about 40 yeas of leaves. Our house was built on a lot that was vacant for that time. (So maybe even more) 😁

They certainly make you smile. 🙂 As to the leaves: ours was a well-kept property, but as we have plenty of oaks, we just now have tons of leaves.

It’s a two-edged sword creating a new landscape, but as long as you enjoy it, that’s all that matters. And, the photos and dialogue are just too sweet!! Thank you for sharing your babies with us!

I imagine activities like yard work make Lucy and Twiggy glad they’re canine, not human. Lots of work to tackle there, John, but just think how pretty it will be when it’s done to your preferences. You’ll have to show us, okay?

I will show you. I plan to take some before shots and then the after. I wish I had a few of all the bad looking junipers that were all over the place, but they are gone.

Those junipers are like arborvitae — they can become really shaggy if untended.

Aw, that snoozing picture is the most adorable yet, John. Good luck with the yard. I think the alien person-eating weeds from Little Shop of Horrors have taken over my yard, in advance of taking the entire planet. I’ve pulled a large trash bag full every morning for the past 6 days, and there are at least that many more out there. I think they called in reinforcements last night. I named their leader Seymour. I think they are out there plotting revenge for the ones I’ve taken….
Mega hugs!
