Another Friday and the week has not slowed down at all. We did have a visit from the lot clearing service. We had a bunch of what we call in Texas, cedars ( The rest of the world calls them junipers) on our lot. They were in sorry shape, and we had them removed. We also need to trim the neighbors and bushes to make room for the fence that we are going to put in. The fence has been approved, and permits paid, so we are just waiting for the contractors to submit their bids. Of course, the contractors are all worth a billion dollars and could care less about new work, so we wait.
Once the fence is in, we will proceed with the landscaping plan. The yard is about three times the size of Port Aransas, so some planning will be necessary.
Our dining room table arrived (big surprise), and the chairs are two to three weeks away. We are looking forward to having a meal there.
Since I don’t have the skill to build a fence, I am at the mercy of those who do. Today’s JohnKu talks about wishing. I hope you have a great weekend.

Is it wrong to wish?
To be skilled in everything. . .
So as not to wait.
Not a thing wrong with wishing, John. I hope you get an agreeable estimate soon and get the fence up. All the best. 🙂 — Suzanne

Hope you get the fence soon. Also the chairs. Standing at the table for dinner could get awkward. Enjoy the weekend.

It sure could. Thanks, Charles.

I suppose the food gets to the stomach faster if we stand while eating. Waiting is so hard, isn’t it? Happy Friday!

Now there is a good spin on no chairs. Have a great weekend, Jill. 😀

It’s amazing what you and the producer have achieved in such a short time. Soon you’ll have a new fence and chairs, and you’ll forget the waiting/wishing. There will just be celebrations. Maybe an online housewarming is called for? 🙂

Ha ha ha. I like the idea of an online housewarming. Hope your weekend is special, Gwen.

I suck at DIY, John, so I spend plenty of time waiting for contractors as well.

Good thing I don’t have to stand on one foot.

Best of luck, John! You’ll get to use that table before you know it. For now, you could use it to lay out your ideas for the landscaping?

A stand up desk. Great idea. Thanks, GP

Thwee are only so many things we can do ourselves. Some are best left to the specialists.
Have a great weekend and hope you don’t have to wait too long.

Waiting is no fun (and at times incredibly frustrating) but as someone who has helped build fences (most recently around our backyard—and we have an acre, so it’s not a small yard) I can tell you sometimes it’s nice to let someone else do it. Even if it is a bit inconvenient.
I hope your chairs come soon, your construction bid is low, and your contractor does the work quickly and competently. Happy weekend!

Thank you, Staci. An acre? Wow.

I can’t really say we fenced the full acre. We didn’t do the front yard or a small part of the side. And then there’s the part the house sits on, so most of the fence is behind that. But we did do the majority of the property. The worst part is digging the holes. I swear, we always buy property that sits on rocky soil. I’m hoping the next house has soft earth. Or, even better, already has a fence.

We are on rocky soil as well. No way I can do it myself.

I’d never want to see my hubby try to put up a fence – the foul language I heard when he tried to start the trimmer a few days ago was enough. Hope it all goes well, John!

That is why I got a battery powered trimmer. I needed to protect myself from eternal damnation 🤬

I tried building a fence once. It turned into firewood.
Happy Friday Boss.

I don’t think it’s wrong, John. I try to do as much as I can, myself. I like how the girls are using the walkway. They are so darn cute.

Nope! It’s never wrong to wish for anything you want to wish for. But, yes, contractors are WAY too busy and most will pass over small jobs for the bigger money. Look for a smaller local company. Good luck!

Maybe all that wishing will reach the contractors! It’s hard waiting when you want something done. We gutted our kitchen a year ago, and I remember how impatient I was while waiting for everything to slot into place with all the various contractors.
I know the girls will love a fenced yard, too. Fingers crossed for you!

I totally empathize with your fence issues. The one between us and one of our neighbors is just about to topple over, but getting workers in to repair/replace it is next to impossible. Gee, shouldn’t *somebody* want to work?!? Best of luck, John!

Waiting is the hard part:) There are many times I wish I could do or fix things myself around the house, but that is not my skill…lol.Hope the fence moves along quickly for you and enjoy your new table!

I’ve heard many a friend and acquaintance wish they could write, John. So at least we have that wish fulfilled, yes? Let someone else build a fence, we get to build WORLDS. 🙂

On the other hand, you get to wait for your fence in a nice, new home that many of us will never have no matter how hard we wish! And you have the girls to play with in the interim, so there’s that. The hardest part is over — getting the permit — so I hope the rest goes quickly.

We just got word that mid may is the start date. You make a good point about a focus on the good parts. Thanks, Linda.

Not being able to things sure does make me appreciate the skills of others and be in awe of what they can do that I can not.
I’m in your boat. I can’t hang cabinets, or countertops or figure out how many or how much I need so was looking for a contractor and my job is too small for most. We found one, but he’s not quite the do it all contractor I was hoping for as he gave me “homework”! I wish Dan lived next door to me too this homework would be a piece of cake for him, but not me!
Getting the permits approved and the dining table in is PROGRESS!
The girls are patrolling the grounds and look adorable doing it!

Oh, it is so frustrating to wait on others. We’ve been there and done that and will do it all again I’m sure. Greg does what he can but with his bad back, we (more like I) have to set limitations. Of course, we’re on the flip side from you and the Producer. We’ve been in our home for almost 30 years and will probably move in about 5 years so we have that in mind when we consider home improvements (like do only what is necessary to make the house sellable). Good luck with the fence and I hope your chairs come soon!

Thank you, Marie. We just got word the fence is scheduled for mid-May. Good to know. A move is five years sounds like a better idea than a move now. 😀

Oh, indeed, we are prepared to move now even if we wanted to. Three reasons we’re still tied to our home: Junior, Maxine, and Wendy 😸😸😸
LikeLiked by 1 person
I can understand that reason. We waited until Frank and Stella went over the rainbow bridge before even thinking of a move.
