Thursday – A Little Personal – Cabin Fever

Today was a rainy day here in Lakeway. It started in the morning and lasted all day. Poor Lucy and Twiggy were pretty much housebound the whole day. They did their best to remain entertained.

“Twiggy, what are you doing?”

“Playing.”

“What are you playing?”

“I have my gotcha cake and am playing birthday.”

“Check outside for me. Is it still raining?”

“Yes. Lucy. It is still raining.”

“Darn. That means you and I have to find something to do in here.”

“Well, it’s not so bad. We could play tag.”

“We just played tag. Check on the rain again.”

“Still coming down, Lucy.”

“Okay then come here. I’ve got your gotcha cake.”

“Hey. That’s mine. What are you going to do with it?”

“Humm. Maybe I’ll eat it.”

“How about I put it on your back?”

“That’s okay by me. Or you could toss it.”

“Nice toss, Lucy.”

“You toss it back.”

“No, I think I’ll just walk it over.”

“Pretty lazy. Little one.”

“This is hard work, Lucy.”

“Please. You haven’t done a thing all day.”

“I know we can check out the new rug.”

“Hey, Mom. Pretty nice.”

“I don’t know little one. This texture is different.”

“Won’t show footprints, Lucy.”

“Good point, Little Potato.”

Very sweet exchange. I love the new rug, absolutely beautiful on the tiles. 🙂

  2. I’m glad we’re not the only ones soft enough to provide steps for the little ones to reach sofas and beds.

    1. Big suckers we are. The steps were originally intended for Lucy. Now the little one uses them all the time. 😀

      1. We have them for Trevor’s arthritis, but that doesn’t stop Eos using them, too.

    1. That was a cute expression. I took the shot and then decided to use it in the story. Thanks, Dale.

  6. The picture with Twiggy under Lucy is adorable, John. They are both so cute. Who gets “dog duty” on rainy days, you or The Producer?

    1. We take turns when possible. Thanks, Dan. Of course, the Producer goes out on errands more than I do. So whoever is home

  9. This is always the best part of my Thursdays. Their expressions on the new rug are priceless. And I’m dying to know how you keep the candles on the cake. My dogs got new toys for Easter and the ears were ripped off in the first few minutes; the squeakers unearthed within an hour.

    1. Ripped is the usal result with our toys too. For some reason this cake is made of steel. It also has a happy birthday tune that makes you want to see an early end. They both love it. Thanks, Staci.

  11. We’ve had to go to specific toy times. Frankie eats them if given free rein. They go absolutely insane when the time comes around, barking at the closet door to remind us. I miss the good old days of just leaving them out.

    1. Ours are laying all over the place. We are always afraid of tossing one since each toy seems to get its own play time.

      1. I’ve had dogs like that. The old pitbull destroyed them, but played with each remaining rag for years.

      2. That’s how this is. Once breached, we pull the stuffing out and give them the flat version back.

I had a hard time picking out the girls against the pattern and color of the rug. 🙂 Must be doggy camouflage. 🙂

  16. Hard to entertain the troops when they can’t go outside. At least kids will watch TV, play video games or Legos, or read. Our weather today is similar, and trust me, it’s soooo much fun being the foot (and coat) wiper when it’s raining! Good choice on the rug and flooring.

    1. Thank you, Debbie. We kept our eye on the radar and when spotting a break meant everyone had to go potty. Yeah the footwipe is something none of us like. Dogs or humans.

  17. It’s good that they entertain themselves a bit, anyway. My dogs don’t want to go out in the rain, but won’t stay out of ponds or irrigation ditches. Go figure. Give ’em a nice, clean kiddie pool – won’t touch it!

    1. Ha haha. Our over the bridge Bailey would find the dirtiest puddle to splash in. Best was right after a bath.

  18. I must say — having these two around would help my cabin fever when it sets in. I do have to ask: why is it called a gotcha cake? Is that just your fun name for it, or is it something usual in doggie world that I don’t know about?
