Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy is Playing

Twiggy and Lucy

“Let go. Let me throw it.”

“Grr, no way.”

“Come on Twiggy. You can fetch it.”

“What do you think is easier? Clamping my jaw or running down the hall like an idiot?”

“That would be hard for me to answer. Hey Lucy. Tell her to let go.”

“Huh what? Better humor the boss twiggy. He’s all we got.”

“Okay then. Here is a toy you can toss, Dad.”

“All right. I’ll spin it down the hall.”

“Here you go. One spinning toy.”

“Thanks, Twiggy. Uh, you going to let go?”

“Hmmm. Looks like we are faced with the same conundrum, Dad.”

“Where on earth did you get the word conundrum?”

“Picked it up from you.”

“Hey, Lucy. I got out of playing fetch.”

“How did you do that little one?”

“I took your suggestion.”

“Yeah, Which one was that?”

“To use a big word and flummox Dad.”

“What word did you use?”

“Conundrum. He let go of the toy and went to the refrigerator when I told him I got the word from him.”

“He’s probably wondering what other words you picked up. Well done Little Potato.”

I hope I didn’t hurt his feelings.”

“Nothing a little soothing syrup won’t fix.”

    1. Ha haha. I would not be surprised as well. Twiggy loves tug-of-war and I like fetch, so it is a never ending battle. Thanks, GP

  5. I am glad to know that Twiggy has learned one of my favourite words, John. Now you must teach her “upward trajectory” and she can work in corporate finance.

    1. I think the term, “slope,” would also be handy.

  6. She is getting serious, dear John. By the way, does Twiggy watch TV with you?

    1. We watch a prerecorded show and then the news starting about 8:15 PM. She takes a nap then, so, no. She has seen things on the computer that interest her but not TV. Thanks, Maria.

      1. Oh, well! New generation! Always computer! Imagine, one day you enter your study while Twiggy is typing something. I have asked as Gregory, the budgie I have posted about, adored both TV & computer. He even could type e bit… 🙂 He watched Tour de France, some cartoons & any program about elephants. 🙂

  11. Clever girls. My dogs don’t use big words, but I suspect they keep it simple so as not to confuse me. Now, where can I get some of that soothing syrup?

    Loved this, John.

  12. Soothing syrup? I’ve never heard it called that before, but I’ll have mine on the rocks. Mine have turtle toys now too. They must be making the rounds in the pet stores.

  13. That was some game, John. My parents had a dachshund who had a rubber ball he’d pretend to fight to keep with growl after growl until he let you throw it. The game then started again. 😀 — Suzanne

  14. Looks like a great metaphor for Washington, actually. Half want to play tug-of-war, and the other half want to play fetch. If only we could get them all to take a nap for a while.

  17. Twiggy has an arsenal of words she’s lugging around as if a chew toy! She chased conundrum with flummox!
    That’s what happens when Dad is a writer . . .

  30. LOL… Oh, I see a stubborn glint in Twiggy’s eyes. Conundrums and soothing syrup. What’s not to like? I haven’t slept well all week. Maybe I need to get a bottle of soothing syrup. Wine doesn’t seem to be doing the trick. o_O
