“Hey, Lucy. You should come to dad’s office.”
“Why? Little one.”
“There are some stairs so we can get on the bench that’s there.”
“Harrumph. Never met a bench I couldn’t jump up on.”
“But I can get up and look for deer.”
“You better be careful, Little Potato. You know what Mom and the Boss feel about barking at deer.”
“Ugh. These stars are too soft for me.”
“I remember about the deer. It doesn’t hurt to look.”
“That’s true. Hey, there are no deer out there.”
“We have to wait.”
“For heaven’s sake. I have better things to do than wait for deer. Besides they come later. Let’s go play.”
“Okay, Lucy. You always know what’s best.”
“The moral of the story sweetheart is to wait until the dogs get bored then calmly walk down the drive.”
“How long till they get bored, Mama?”
“Oh, maybe three minutes is all.”
“Maybe there will be deer this afternoon, Little One.”
“Yeah, maybe. I did think I could detect their essence though.”
“Phantom olfactory response, Twiggy.”
“I guess. It seemed so real.”
Seventy-five years ago today the invasion of France to free Europe took place. We should remember the greatest generation who gave so much for the freedom we enjoy today.

What a sweet story! You’ve captured the pups and their interests and then offered us a glimpse of the deer — all while sharing your beautiful office. What a feat! You are right about the Greatest Generation. It’s stunning to realize that over 4,000 allied forces lost their lives on June 6th alone. “Saving Private Ryan” still haunts me. Bless them all. ♥

Your office has the one thing I consider necessary: windows. Lucy and Twiggy would be great, but they’re so darned cute, I’d probably spend too much time playing with them if they were around. Maybe they get bored with Dad not paying attention to them, and just go to sleep, or stand deer watch.

Twiggy has a new habit. She wants to be in my lap while I’m trying to type. So far she only stays for ten minutes or so and then goes off for some other activity like a nap.

Dog POVs and deer POVs … you’ve outdone yourself. And the office looks great.
I’ve had D Day Memorial coverage on all morning (since 3:00 a.m.). I have no words for how important it is to be marking the occasion and remembering the fallen. And the ones who survived. What sacrifice. Truly the greatest generation.

Lucy hates the stairs since they are made of foam and give a little. She feels shaky on them. The bench is too narrow for her launch so she has no choice.

Otto has an issue with the fact that ours wobble a bit. He still uses them, but you can tell.

John, I so love your new office! How TIDY everything is. I suppose that’s one good thing about moving — the forced tossing out of nonessentials and the surrounding oneself with things one truly loves. My late dad was part of that Greatest Generation — thanks to him and his buddies, we’re a free people today!

It’s a wonderful chest you have there in your office, John. I love it.
As to the deer: I hope they’ll be fine. We found a dead fawn last night. Very likely run over by a car. So sad!

The chest was my grandfathers. He was a surgeon in WWI and the chest held his instraments while he was in the field (France). It is made of oak and brass. If you noticed the two brass shell casings at the top of the book case on the left. He brought those back after one of his patents used a firing pin to emboss them by habd. You can’t see the detail but are a thank you to the medical corps.

Love the pictures and your office, John. I need to get those steps for our dog. Lifting 95 pounds isn’t easy getting into the car with her bad hip/leg. Yes, I agree we should never forget the heroic actions of the past.

The steps have proven to be beneficial to Lucy. Her hips are feeling okay so she can get up and down at will without them now.

One year the finches ate the plum blossom, it got me mad. This year the birds came back from the south later. The rain boosted the blossom and the bees were busy, so I got hundreds of plums riping. 👍

Great story! It was hilarious. I guess the deers outsmarted Twiggy and Lucy this time. Your office is beautiful. I love the windows and so do the doggies.
The WWII invasion of Normandy changed the course of the war. I can’t imagine the courage it took and horror they must have felt and seen while storming those beaches. They will never be forgotten, especially since books continue to be written and movies made about it. ❤ xo
