Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy’s Day Off

Twiggy and Lucy

“Hey, Twiggy. What’s up?

“It is Lucy’s day off, and she won’t play with me.”

“Maybe I can talk to her.”

“Oh, Dad, that would be swell.”

“So, Lucy. I know it’s your day off but how about a game with Twiggy?”

“Well, you see Boss. A day off means not playing with Twiggy.”

“Maybe a quick toss with cow?”

“Nope. Will only lead to a chase scene.”

“Look, Chippie. You love Chippie.”

“On any other day, sure.”

“Lucy. Just one game of hedgehog?”

“Sorry, little one. I have a nap scheduled.”

“You can chase me with fox.”

“You can do that with the boss.”

“Let’s take ears for a spin.”

“You go right ahead.”

“You are a poop. You know that?”

“I’ve been told that, Little Potato.”

“So none of these, Lucy?”

“Gee, boss. It’s tempting, but  I have to pass.”

“One last chance. How about gotcha cake?”

“It’s playing my song, but I’m late for my nap.”

“Well, Twiggy. What can I tell you? Lucy has a day off which we have to respect.”

“I have to wonder who made up a day off for a dog? Thanks for trying anyway.”

“Wany to play fetch?”

“No, thanks. I’ll think I’ll take a day off too.”

This exchange made me think of my grandkids wanting to play. Sometimes it’s me who wants a day off. 😀 Delightful, John, and the photos are precious. You truly are a dog whisperer.

    1. Thank you, Gwen. The little ones can be exhausting. That’s why the young have kids. 😁

  3. Where can I order a day off? I know they’re for dogs, but I’m willing to act the part.

  4. Priceless. Maybe Twiggy should have invited Lucy out to play in that beautiful newly completed yard! That surely would have been enticing! 😉

    1. Yes, but the yard is still mud. The landscapers haven’t started yet. We are looking forward to that day. Thanks, Lori

      1. Oh shoot, John, somehow had it in my head that you had completed that project. We were in your neck of the woods last weekend, visiting family in San Antonio and Boerne. Such fun!

    1. She is. I have a photo of her hanging onto Lucy’s jowl when Twiffy was a puppy. Luch just stood there with a “help me” look on her face. 😀

  8. Aw, Twiggy does look like she wants to play. I’ll bet she drives Lucy nuts at times (but she’s adorable).

    1. She does. Lucy does a standing jump onto the couch when that happens. Twiggy can’t follow. Thanks, Dan

  9. Poor Lucy. She probably needs a break from all Twiggy’s energy. But poor Twiggy; she just wants to play. Hopefully the day off is what they both need to get back in the swing of things.

  10. Our cat, Bond, was in the same situation. We kept the older son’s cat for a few weeks – she’s only a year old and full of energy. Bond struggled to have days off also, lol.

    1. Poor Bond. Sometimes Lucy has just had it. This ball of energy called Twiggy gets on her last nerve. She needs a day off now and then

  11. So cute. I feel like Lucy when Frankie decides to go crazy. She rockets around the house and it’s safest to get out of her way.

But this was a learning moment for the young Jedi. Now she will learn the value of a day off with which to cool your paws.

“I have a nap scheduled,” Buahahahaha! I must use that.

  27. She’s getting old and my heart breaks for you, Twiggy, and Lucy. I wish He-Man would have gone along with me when I wanted to get another dog while Diva Dog was spry enough to help train it. I really should have done what I did when I got Diva Dog and just done it despite what he said.

I sure hope Lucy will play with Twiggy tomorrow! If not Boss it’s all you!

    1. I have been blessed with a number of wonderful cats and dogs. While they are with me, I do my best to make sure they have the best life that I can provide. Since all are rescues, I know their beginning may not have been the best but the balance is up to me. I miss each one and always wish they could live forever.

  28. I miss Honey so much. I really wish I went against He-Man’s wishes again and found another dog. It wouldn’t replace her, but it would help heal the hurt and fill the void. I miss her so much. I never knew a DOG could or would be such a part of my family and life. She was my first, and will always be the best.

  29. Honey was her real name, but she was a Diva Dog. Baby Girl named after the honey color of her hair when she was a puppy. As she aged, she got whiter and whiter. By the time she was 3 only a hint of Honey was in her ears.
I’m waxing nostalgic and missing her terribly. I’m signing off and remembering her in my heart and dreams.
