A lovely way to spend a Sunday. My two daughters and I visited two wineries. The first is named Spicewood. I’ll show you the second next week.

We sat on the patio of the activity center and shared a bottle of wine.
This is the entrance gate to the folks who used to own Spicewood winery. They sold it in 2007.

Reminds me of my wine tasting adventures when I last visited California, John. We even have a ‘Napa Valley Winery Doors’ framed poster on our wall. On one of the tours, it was just my partner and me, plus two ladies from New York. I can’t tell you what a great time we had once the wine tasting began. We even sent a couple of cases home, despite knowing we would have to pay import duty. That didn’t seem to matter at the time.

We lived in Sonoma for ten years. My wife was a marketing person for a winery. What a life. I can understand that the duty was a small consideration after a few tastings. Thanks for sharing, Hugh

There are so many charming vineyards in the Hill Country! I have heard of this one but never visited Spicewood. I am sure you and your daughters made good memories over that bottle of wine. Cheers!

Looks like a very well-kept place, John. But 32 acres only?! Where else do they get their grapes from? I’ve read that wine from here can be called “Texas Wine” even if only 20% of the grapes are from Texas.

What a lovely Sunday excursion — thank you for letting me tag along, John! I’m not much of a wine connoisseur, but it looks like this winery has lots of eye appeal — the creek, fountain, patio, and tasting bar are very attractive. And who could resist taking a load off in that barrel chair?!?

If you’re in the mood for a nice Tempranillo, try Llano Estacado’s. It’s one of the few reds I really enjoy. I had no idea there was a winery in Spicewood — I’ve known it only for its most famous resident: Willie!

We had a nice blend. 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. The juice was from Washington State.

There are some amazing vineyards in Niagara, John, but I don’t drink so I’ve never explored them.
