Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Lucy and Twiggy

“Let’s play tag, Lucy.”
“Okay, I’ll give you to the count of three.”
“Can I get five?”

It is Friday again. This week has been more of the old heatwave. It has been 103 degrees for the last nine days. That kind of heat wears one out. We are expecting at least another two weeks of above 100 degrees. We can complain as much as we want, but it won’t help.

I spent another week on my WIP. Again I averaged above 1000 words a day and am currently at over 54,000.

Today’s JohnKu talks about the weather which is everyone’s favorite subject.

The Weather by John W. Howell © 2019

It’s one of those things,

We all talk about daily . . .

And never change it.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

  1. Nice progress on your book, John! No matter the weather, we can always write, right? Happy Friday! I’m soooooo ready for the weekend.

  2. It’s a shame it’s so hot for so long. It’s cooler here now in monsoon but the air isn’t good and made worse by the constant building going on. Our Society building is due for redevelopment. I’ll have to move twice and might be off the computer for a while. Moving is far from my favorite thing. Have a great weekend, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

  5. It’s been hot in our part of the state. And after getting lots of rain in the spring and early summer, we could use some now. The promise of cooler temps is in the forecast for next weekend. Hope it holds up.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  6. Guess the writing progress is an upside to the heatwave. Hope it breaks sooner than the predicted two weeks.

    1. Second hottest August in history so we do need a break. Thanks, Charles.

  7. It’s interesting, what a difference two hundred miles can make. We had nice rain yesterday, and rain is on tap for today and tomorrow, bringing the high temperature down to about 90. May such conditions come to you soon! Maybe you could amuse the cabin-fevered girls by letting them edit all that productive work you’re doing!

    1. Twiggy says she doesn’t understand what I’ve written. Lucy says she is not interested. So it was a good suggestion but these guys still want to be dogs, not editors. Thanks, Linda. 😁

      1. That may be just as well, although you’ve lost the chance to tell a your publisher, “The dogs ate my first draft…”

  9. Perfectly expressed, John. We are suffering from heat here, too – in the mid to upper 90s. But hey, it’s the south and it’s summer. We’ve now taken two trips to places unexpectedly hotter than here – no more traveling in the summer!!

    1. Yeah. Doesn’t make sense to spend good money to get hotter. Might be like going to the North Pole in the winter.

  10. Your 103 reminds me of one my old golf scores…and, that was with a little fudging! ‘That, too’ (the high heat) will pass! ♥

  12. You’re about 10 degrees higher than us, John. It’s even cooler at the beach where we’re going, so I’m looking forward to that. Nice word count on the WIP!

We definitely can’t change the weather, but never been a fan of heat. Does it cool off at night to help?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. It only goes down to 79 or 80. Not like the California nights of 55-60.

We’ve had weird weather, too. Heat advisories the beginning of the week; now we’re below average and plagued with storms. Crazy.

    Stay cool, John.

  20. So. Doggone. Hot. We had a lovely cool front blow through, and it was 61 degrees when I woke up this morning. Perfect sleeping weather! Wish we could share with you, but I’m afraid this one’s headed east, not south. Sigh. Hang in there, and console yourself with how much you’ve accomplished on that WIP!!

  21. That kind of heat is insane! And to think it’s going to continue another two weeks is mind boggling. Today it feels tallish in my neck of the woods and the next several days are keyed to continue the pattern. I was actually chilly today (bizarre, I know!).

Stay inside and stay cool. The girls can hang out in your office as you write.

  23. Hot August Nights huh? Sounds like Summer is still raging there in TX. We’ve cooled off a bit here down from the high 90’s to mid 80’s these last few days. I don’t know what to expect here, but in Silicon Valley, there’s usually a heatwave in Aug/Sept for a week or so. I guess I’ll find out!

Congrats on keeping up your goal of 1000 words a day! It seems daunting to me, but keep it going!

Hope you have ceiling fans, and A/C to stay cool!

    1. We do have ceiling fans and A/C so it is okay indoors. The outside is the pits. Thanks, Deborah. As I recall from my days in Sonoma the weather near the Sierras is pretty nice in the fall.
