Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy

Lucy and Twiggy

“Hey, dad. Any chance of forcing Lucy to play with me?”

“Now you know that doesn’t work well, Little One.”

“look at her though. Sound asleep when there are toys to play with.”

“Go see if she wants to play.”

“You want to play, Lucy?”

“Little potato. I’ve played with you for the last three hours. I need a small break.”

“Okay, then. I’ll just wander over and play with my hamburger.”

“There you go. A nice hamburger.”

“Lots of fun. Look I can chew the cheese-like fabric.”

“Uh-huh. Why not play with Beaver?”

“Beaver is under the couch.”

“Get the Boss to help you.”

“Dad? Can you get Beaver for me?”

“Sure Twiggy. No problem.”

“Ah Thanks, Dad.  Beaver is my friend.”

“I hope Beaver likes to be checked for fleas.”

“It’s no fun trying to play alone.”

“Come over here, Little one.”

“You know there are times when you just have to play alone.”

“But I miss playing with you.”

“Okay. I’ll make you a deal. We take a nap then I’ll play with you.”

“Okay, Lucy. You are the best. I’ll try to close my eyes.”

“I think more important is trying to close the mouth.”

    1. We have a group of local hamburger stands called P-Terry’s. We call the toy P-Terry and she picks it out of the pile on command. She loves it.

      3. I just emailed it to you! Actually the storm is riding the coast, so the outer bands aren’t reaching us. We’ve got some strong wind gusts, but no rain. There’s a lot of tornado warnings in the Eastern part of the state.

      4. Thank you for the picture. (Looks a little like Twiggy in the paws) I hope Dorian stays away from you.

  8. LOL! Lucy gets the last word.

The young have so much energy, Twiggy is a ball of playtime exuberance and I have a feeling Lucy may need another nap after she lives up to her promise!

  11. Another adorable day with the girls, John. Thanks for making me smile. I got a kick out of the ending. She hasn’t done it in a long time, but for about a year, Crystal would wake me up during the night — talking in her sleep! Once I figured out what was going on, it was too funny. Hugs on the wing.

    1. My goodness. Talking in the sleep would be disturbing. Lucy does have dreams where she barks and whines.

  12. My house is the same way, right down to barking at toys under the furniture. Frankie is perpetual motion, and Otto likes a break once in a while.

  13. Buahahaha! Poor Twiggy, playing all by her lonesome. I wonder what it feels like to have that kind of energy?

I think Lucy’s strategy is most wise.

  14. I think the dynamic duo is doing just fine. Lucy is über patient and Twiggy is learning that sometimes, waiting is worth it.

  20. John, how in the world do you get anything done when these two cuties are around?? Love the way you, too, name the dogs’ toys, and I fully appreciate how Twiggy doesn’t want to play alone. It’s the social interaction that makes the toys come alive!

    1. So true. Shehas a game that she plays with me only. She’ll bring me a toy, I’ll toss it. She gets it and then brings it back expecting me to play tug ot war. It ends up with her holding on to the toy and laying down and me draging her around the room. Fun.

      3. !!!!!! You know I always wonder how our pets perceive the stuffed toys. I suppose they have their own reality in their imagination. We see a toy & think that it is a beaver or a hamburger, for example, however Twiggy might comprehend them in her own unique way! 🙂

  25. Ha ha – I love Lucy’s response.

I didn’t get an email notice for this post, but I’m glad I found it. Those two crack me up. Sometimes I feel like we’re Lucy, because Maddie acts a lot like Twiggy. Under the couch is a major pain. She tried to help, and forces things to the back (ours is in a corner).
