Thursday – A Little Personal – Decorations

Lucy and Twiggy

“Hey, you guys. What are you doing?”

“Decorating the tree. You want in?”

“Goodness. All the ornaments are already on the tree.”

“Well, you wanted to go outside and chase the squirrel.”

“I know but no one said anything about decorating.”

“That’s true Little One. I think they thought it would go better if you were out playing.”

“There is not even an old bone to hang on the tree.”

“Yeah, as if that’s what everyone would want.”

“Did you help decorate, Lucy?”

“No. I took up my position on the couch.”

“Why aren’t all the ornament boxes put away?”

“I think the folks are taking more totes to the garage.”

“It’s a sad thing to know I missed everything.”

“Geez, Twiggy. You didn’t miss anything. How many ornaments could you hang?”

“Well, that’s not really the point. I’m going to give mom and dad a piece of my mind.”

“Good idea. That always works well.”

The first photo is a classic…so precious! By the looks on your pups’ faces, they are accustomed to order, and now don’t know what to do. I suspect all will be well, though, as I bet mom and pop will deliver new toys on Christmas! 🙂

    1. There is a possibility for new toys for sure. Thanks, Gwen.

  6. The tree looks lovely in your new home. I believe this is the first Christmas in this house. Am I right? Dogs seem to like the Christmas tree. I know Dot does. xo

  7. Quite the helpful crew – but shouldn’t they be wearing elf outfits?

  12. Twiggy looks so sad in that first photo, John. I’m sure you were able to sooth her hurt feelings. I understand the desire to get the job done while she was occupied.

  14. Raven was smack in the center of decorating when we put up our tree, John.

Looks like Twiggy and Lucy still had an important job by inspecting your work.
Anything out of the ordinary and four-leggeds are there to check it out!

    So cute!

  15. Love Twiggy’s face from outside… The NERVE!! How dare you guys decorate without me there…
Fun stuff. Mine will be going up next week. Never before December 19 as Mick’s birthday was the 18th. Had to keep ’em separate. Mind you, in my family always put it up Christmas Eve…

    1. I always liked the idea of the Christmas eve tree. When I was a small boy my parents did the tree after we were asleep on Christmas eve. In the mornng, we would come down the stairs to a miracle.

      1. We had a whole ritual. Real tree and while us girls an my dad decorated, my mother made her meat pies, which we then had for supper.

  21. Welll, Little One did miss out on the fun. Good reason to be a little grumpy about it. 🙂 Christmas Tree looks lovely – always one of my favorite things to do – trim the tree.

  24. They seem remarkably well-behaved around the tree. I still have the 30′ of 3/8″ galvanized chain I used to keep Dixie Rose from tipping our trees over. She didn’t care about playing with the ornaments, but she sure did have an urge to climb that tree!

    1. Last year we had the tree surrounded by a play pen. Twiggy was six months old and wanted everything on and under the tree. I guess she is getting more mature now.

  25. My dogs also ‘helped’ us decorate. One of them likes to lay on the tree skirt under the tree as if she’s a present. Love the floors, by the way.

  26. Dallas doesn’t give a fig for the tree, what’s on it, or what’s under it. I suppose we’re lucky there! Sort of sad that Twiggy missed out on the decorating fun though.

    1. She had a lot of sniff time to catch up. So she was okay until the discovery that she missed out.

  27. I love they are in the middle of everything but being so polite! Garfield climbs the tree and knocks off ornaments (why we put the cloth ones at the bottom).

  28. You have such a lovely and sophisticated Christmas tree, John. I have a Christmas chaos tree and I still hang the decorations my boys made as very small lads. I even have a lot of the decorations from my girlhood which my mom gave to me.

    1. Those kinds of decorations are the best. We have balls that go back twenty five years. We have a tradition of writing on the ball the year and who helped decorate the tree and the pets with us. Each year the memories of those previous Christmas’s come back as we place those balls on the tree. Always a bittersweet time. Thanks for sharing, Robbie.

  30. I hope you gave them a piece of your mind, Twiggy. It wasn’t about hanging the ornaments, it was about being there. But then there is always the clean up and putting things away… not so much fun.
