Thursday – A Little Personal – Play Ball or Not

Lucy and Twiggy

“Hey, Little one. How about a game of Jolly ball.”

“Um. I’m kind of busy right now.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“Busy? Doing what?”

“I’m looking for acorns.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“Acorns? You know you are not supposed to chew those. They’re not good for dogs.”

“I’m not going to chew them.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“What are you going to do then?”

“I’m going to use them as bait for that pesky squirrel.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“You gotta be kidding me. Look this ball is a sure thing. You’ll never get that squirrel.”

“Well, rather than chase it, I’ll lay a couple of acorns down and when it comes to get them I’ll pounce like a mama lion.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“Okay then. I’m going to go get some rays.”

“Where did all the acorns go anyway?”

Lucy and Twiggy

“I hate to tell you but Mom comes out here and picks them up.”

“Well, no wonder.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“So you might just as well come over and take in the sun too.”

“I just can’t imagine Mom coming out here to pick them up.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“She doesn’t want you to get sick, Dufus.”

“Aww, you think so?”

Lucy and Twiggy

“I know so. Also, she hates it when you sit in those rocks.”

“Why. I like them. They are nice and warm.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“Yes, and you get ant bites over there.”

“Not all the time. Just once in a while. You gonna move over or what?”

  1. Poor little Twiggy…she seems to get busted no matter what she does. I’m with her trying to keep those pesky squirrels away. Looks like a beautiful day, John!

  5. It sounds like there’s a fear Twiggy will eat almost anything. Ant bites can be nasty, especially red ants. Good pictures, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

    1. She is getting better. As she gets older she doesn’t go after everything. Sticks and acorns are still on her favorite list though. Thanks, Suzanne.

  7. Trevor loved helping to dig in France. Sadly, he almost invariably managed to dig an ants’ nest. Poor boy suffered so much for that!

  12. So Twiggy is one of those squirrel-crazy dogs – plus, just another example of her ignoring Lucy’s wisdom.

  16. That’s interesting about the acorns not being good for dogs. I didn’t know that. I used to go out and pick up the acorns for my pet squirrel. I was the only one in the neighborhood with acorns in my freezer.

  19. I’m pea-green over your sunshine, John. We’ve had more than our share of gray days, a real challenge for those with long-haired dogs! The girls are fortunate they have parents who take such good care of them — picking up acorns is hard on backs!
