Thursday – A Little Personal – Lovely Weather

A Little Persona;

“So you think we need sunscreen, Lucy?”

“No,  Little One. We’ll mind the shadows.”

“Well, now that we are out here, I want to look at that olive tree.”

“I’ll come with you. Been wanting to check it out myself.”

“You should see all the little buds on it.”

“Yeah, those are the beginning of the flowers.”

“In fact, they say flowers in April, you get a bushel of olives.”

“Flowers make olives?”

Yes, those little buds will form closed blossoms and then turn into olives.”

“You think Dad can use olives?”

“Sometimes he likes something called a martini on the rocks. He puts two olives in that.”

“Well, that sounds disgusting. Hey, what’s that noise?”

“I didn’t hear anything.”

A Little Personal

That squeak. It’s the mail lady opening the box. How did we miss that?”

“Go get her. I’ll be right behind you.”

“Boy, Little One. You sure gave it to her. That was so satisfying.”

“I know, right? I hit her with my double-double bark. I would have loved to see her face.”

“I don’t know about you but I could sure use some shut-eye.”

“Yeah, it’s nice in the shade. Let’s do a nap. The UPS guy is not due for an hour so we have plenty of time.

  1. How are olives right off the tree? Always thought they had to be put in a type of brine like pickles.

    1. Yes they do have to be pickled. Will be fun to see how the whole thing turns out. Unpicked olives can be pressed for oil.

Gosh, I’ve always wondered why pups hate the UPS guys. Maybe it’s something they’re born with? Hope you and your ladies have more sunshine today. We’re forecasted to be having plenty – YAY!

    1. Good for you. I think it is about time. I don’t get the UPS thing either. FedEx is the same. Must be in the genes.

  12. I have to agree with Twiggy about the martini, but if you enjoy them, how much better to have your very own olive tree! The weather has been so lovely, but the girls obviously were shade-seeking. They reminded me of a sure sign of summer: grackles huddling beneath cars at the HEB.

    1. They actually can get sunburn. Lucy is especially prone. They do like brief periods in the sun to bake the bones (so to speak). Your reminder about the grackles made me laugh. Thanks, Linda.

  19. You’ve got your very own olive tree?? Now that’s what I call living high on the hog, John! And from the look of all those flowers, you’re going to have a bumper crop to boot. Glad the girls are able to get out and enjoy the nice weather!

    1. They eat everything. The tree is in an enclosed yard.

      2. They can’t get in unless they decide to jump the six foot fence. I know they can but ours is not a see through so they are reluctant to leap into the unknown. So far anyway.

  32. LOL! They’re on the job! Does your Olive tree have thorns?

A neighbor at my old house had one in her front yard. It was a good shade tree when it grew up, but it was messy. They call the trees behind our house that I keep trimming Olive trees, but omg! The Thorns can massive!

They’re not native here but they’re everywhere!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. No thorns. I’m not sure what you have. They might be ornimental olives.

      1. Perhaps. I’d like to who brought them and planted them all over the valley. It had to have been early settlers. I’m leaning toward the Basques, but since they bare no fruit…who knows?

  33. Brilliant! An olive tree. I don’t care for themmuch but I use Olive Leaf products, some of which I think never see any olive leaves while others use the extract. 🤔
