Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Prompt “Deep.”

It is Stream of Consciousness Saturday again, and this week’s prompt is “deep. Linda Hill says we can use it any way we want. Hmmm, I wonder how many ways it can be used. Let’s see “dig deep.” Well, deep’s an adverb. “Deep hole,” deep is an adjective. “Deep asleep, huh, another adverb. Okay, so deep can be an adverb or adjective. I can work with that. If you would like to drive yourself off the edge and join this prompt, go to Linda’s blog and read how. Here is the link.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS April 4/2020

Deep by John W. Howell © 2020

“Many brave hearts are asleep in the deep, so beware! be-ware!”

“Nice bass on the song. What. are you singing?”

“It’s a tune that’s been around for a while. It has been recorded by many, but my favorite is by Gus Reed recorded in 1908.”

“1908? I didn’t realize they had recordings then.”

“Well, it may surprise you to know the song was written by Arthur J. Lamb and composed by Henry W. Petrie in 1897.”

“Yeah, before we jump in the way back machine, can I ask what caused all this interest in the song? Oh, wait. It’s Saturday, so there can be only one reason.”

Yup. The Hillster.”

“I should have known. At least you kept me out of it this time, and for that, I’m grateful.”

“But I still need help.”

“I’ve been telling you that for years.”

No, I mean on the prompt.”

“Ah, me. I know I’ll regret saying this, but what kind of help do you need?”

“I’ve used deep as a noun. Can you think of other ways.”

“Go to the beginning and read the intro.”

“Yeah, so?”

“Adverb and adjective.”

“Brothers, I take it.”

“No, you goof. You can use ‘deep’ as either.”

“Oh. I guess I should have read the intro.”

“Nah, don’t worry about it. You good now.”

“Deep in debt to you I am.”

“Thanks Yoda.”

“I’ll dig deep into my brain and find a way to thank you.”

“Careful. There’s not too much below the surface. At least you used ‘deep’ as an adverb and adjective. Can I go now?”

“What is holding you?”

“A deep commitment to see you do well on the prompt.”

“Your nose is growing.”

“Plus, I don’t have a ten spot for the pub.”

“Ah. Truth wins out. Here you go.”

“You knocked out this prompt. Come with.”

“Don’t mind if I do. Maybe we can have a deep discussion of some kind.”

“You bringing someone else?”

“Very funny. Here let me put “Asleep in the Deep on.”

I like a story with a happy ending. I.E. on the way to the pub. I think Linda should slide you a few bonus points for all the forms you used.

Stay safe this weekend, take care and dig deep into the snack pantry.

    1. Ah the snacks. Great advice. This is also the day where I enjoy a super hoppy IPA (Which you don’t like). Stay safe as well, Dan. I didn’t see another comment so I’m glad you put in another.

      1. I don’t like IPAs, John, but it seems I’ll have to find a new lager. I read that Mexico says breweries are not essential (what to they know?) and the they won’t be brewing Corona 😦

  7. Could there be a deeper meaning to this ? Or just a warning to not to get in too deep ? Subjects best confronted with philosophy sauce rather than caffeine.

  8. Do you have a deep voice, John? To sing this tune, you would need to, methinks.
    Always fun on Sundays.

    1. Yes I do. I loved singing this song. I first heard it on a Laurel and Hardy two reeler when I was about 11. I have been looking for it but can’t seem to find it. I used to sing along with Brook Benton’s “It’s just a matter of time.” The part where he sings, “Go on, go on is very low in the range.

      2. The last time I sang in public was in the musical Carousel. I played Jigger Kragen. Had a great part and two song solos “Blow High, Blow Low” was the best for a base. This was in 1981 in Connecticut. The ravages of time may have altered the voice. I would love to go drinking with you two and give it a whirl.

      3. Last night we watched “Blow the Man Down” – I can somehow hear us all singing that while clanging our glasses together!
        Wouldn’t that be something?
