In Keith’s words.
“Using this photo (below) as inspiration, write a short story, flash fiction, scene, poem; anything, really; even just a caption for the photograph. Either put it (or a link to it) in a comment or email it to me at keithchanning@gmail.com before 6pm next Sunday (if you aren’t sure what the time is where I live, this link will tell you). If you post it on your own blog or site, a link to this page would be appreciated, but please do also mention it in a comment here.
Go on. You know you want to. Let your creativity and imagination soar. I shall display the entries next Monday.”
Honor by John W. Howell © 2020
“So, what are these guys doing?”
“They are preparing for an honor battle.”
“Honor battle. What’s that?”
“It’s where a challenge has been thrown down, and in order to maintain honor, a battle must be fought.”
“Fought? Here on the ground of this sacred place.”
“Yes, absolutely. There is no other place suitable to defend one’s honor.”
“What started this whole thing anyway?”
“It is a little obscure, but as best as I can tell, one of the guys over there called one of the guys over here’s dishdasha a wizer.”
“Aw come on. Is that reason for a fight?”
“How would you like me to call your jeans, ‘underwear?”‘
“I wouldn’t like it, but still…”
“Well, as you know, the guys from the Sultanate of Oman are real sensitive about their dishdasha’s.”
“Okay, but to court injury for the sake of defending your clothes sounds a little childish.”
“Injury? There’s no injury.”
“I thought you said there is going to be a fight.”
“There is.”
“But when there’s fighting, people get hurt.”
“Maybe feelings, but that’s about all.”
“You have to explain.”
“These are writer nerds, right?”
“Yeah right.”
“So, they fight with words.”
“Huh.”
“Like calling someone’s dishdasha a wizer.”
“So how do they know who wins?”
“When one side or another runs out of words.”
“Writer nerds, right?”
“Yup.”
“They’ll be here all day.”
“Maybe all week.”
“Month?”
“Yeah let’s go. Someone will let us know how it ends.”
I saw a stand-off there, too. I think it’s the guy in the orange top that suggests it,
For background, it was taken at the Agra Fort, where Emperor Shah Jahan was kept under house arrest by his third son Aurangzeb and spent the last year of his life viewing the Taj Mahal from across the river Jamuna.

LOL. I’d hate to get into one of those fights. I’d join your character and leave the scene. Writers have an endless supply of words and they are great at making up a few! 😀

The made up words are like secret weapons. Thanks, Gwen 😁

You know how those word battles go. Everyone is reluctant to cast the first word.

I left a message on your post about my comments disappearing. I wonder if you see them ever.

John I am sure that if I ever see them I should would wonder how I manage to find out. Word Press can be a magical thing. And when it works as advertised it is even spiffier ! I go through a nightly ritual to add tags to my post. It only takes one chicken sacrificial and multiple tries to administer tags. And other than this reply I do not see a comment. Then again it could be me looking in the wrong place.

I think it has been about six posts that I made what I consider excellent comments and poof they are gone. The likes remain but comments not so much.

That must be incredibly frustrating. Sounds similar to what Dan has said in the past. Some days WP does not want us to comment. Grrrr.

Just don’t make yourself crazy over it. Heck we already have the virus for that. No need to over achieve. Stay safe and sane John !

Thank you, John. Some of my comments were very funny. (If I say so myself) Oh well.

I hate to show my ignorance here, but I had to look up “dishdasha,” to see what it was. What a crazy word. Great use of the prompt. It made me grin.
