Well, here we are on a Friday. It seems like it was yesterday (or maybe last year) that it was Friday. The days do take on some kind of similarity. Hmmm, maybe I better check to see if it is Friday. Yeah, it’s Friday for sure.
We got word from the landscaper that the new sod is going to be installed this weekend. If you notice in the photo above, you can see that the lawn is pretty sparse. We were supposed to have the sod replaced a month ago, but due to COVID-19, all construction around here was halted. (including landscaping) That restriction was lifted, and so our project moved forward. Of course, if we get rain, then there will be a delay. You just know it’s going to rain, right?
Our governor is trying to figure out how to open some businesses. As for me, I don’t trust that the virus is anywhere near contained, so I’m going to continue to practice safe living no matter what those guys in government intend to try. I saw a report where a bunch of folks in Michigan were demonstrating at the capital to open the state. They should talk to the Detroit ME, who is still trying to find places to house those who have succumbed to the virus. I think big mistakes are going to be made in this realm.

Topical and to the point. Well done, John. Our government has extended the UK lockdown until at least May 7th, and I’m more relieved than anything else. We are at nearly 14,000 deaths over here and can’t say we’ve reached a peak yet. As a person within the vulnerable category, I plan to isolate for as long as it takes, as long as I can, no matter what other folks do or say until this is actually over.
Hope you and the girls have a good weekend. We’ve got some much needed rain today … the first in about 4 weeks. Never thought I’d say that after the winter we had, lols 🙂

Thanks, Harmony. You have to take care of yourself. My fear is the asymptomatic carriers of the virus will allow it t spread to others if they are not protected. Probabily a good thing for those at risk to continue to keep a distance and stay home as much as possible. Yes, given your winter, wishing for rain is indeed strange. Life is like that though. Great JohnKu, John! I’m sure Twiggy and Lucy will be happy to get some new sod to wallow on. 🙂 I feel for the governors. I think they have a challenging time ahead, but we have to cooperate as well. The reality is, poverty can end up killing more than this virus. I feel for those who’ve lost their jobs and had no money in savings. Donate to your food bank, if you can. They are depleted. It’s quite a juncture we all face, and without a roadmap, we are especially vulnerable. I doubt we’ll be back to “normal” for a long while, and in many locations, we may have to establish a new way of doing business. My heart goes out to everyone suffering in any way from the virus. ♥

Excellent JohnKu for the current times. I too listened to my governor talk about May 1st …. Scratching my head thinking we haven’t peaked yet? The worst thing to do is jump the gun.
Demonstrations happened here too and in some other states. I’ve got the feeling it’s by those believing the virus is similar to a common cold and associated with a deep state plot.

Thank you, Teri. Since the landscaper has to pay for the second installation of sod, I believe there wil be no excuse too small to cancel. We are looking at 60% chance of rain tomorrow so who knows. The conspiracy theorists may cause us all problems. Let’s hope not. Have a great weekend.

I saw the protest on the news too. Being in New York, the sight was rather frightening. I know we started mass graves and refrigerated trailers for the dead over here. My worry is that people will jump the gun and we’ll get hit with a second wave like a few other countries have suffered.

I share your concerns and those of others here, John. I fear the push to get back to business may be premature. I know this is a terrifying time for many…one need only look at the unemployment numbers each morning…but I am afraid that ending social distancing too soon may do more harm than good. Stay safe and enjoy that beautiful yard with those two precious pups….

We had those people here at the capitol, too. Big cluster standing shoulder to shoulder with no protective equipment. I understand the economic devastation, but death is on the line here. Rushing this could turn into a global disaster of proportions only an author would imagine.

Our governor, too, is looking to *cautiously* reopen “certain sectors.” While I empathize with the economic misery, I’m just afraid that jumping back into “normal” could cause a resurgence of this virus, and we’ve all already suffered. It does appear that the US is being overly hasty in its efforts to get back to normal. I guess this is the commercial, pro active nature of the nation and its people. That’s what makes America great. But this is a unique situation and patience may be what is required. Only time will tell. Have a good weekend, John.

I read where Whitmer was on a conference call when the knucklehead brigade was doing its thing. These people have no idea what they’re doing, because they completely dismiss context when they rail on about our freedoms being usurped. If they get sick, how much you wanna make a bet they blame Whitmer for not keeping them safe? Clueless . . .
Ah well, I’m with you. I’m keeping my distance no matter the marching orders. Still gonna be sociable, but I get the responsibility we all have.

I have the same fears, John. If they open businesses back up too soon, the numbers will soar again. I have noticed that just because they’ve started talking about opening up, the roads are crowded again in Dallas. I guess that’s all it took. I will continue to keep my distance from folks and try to stay well!

I thoroughly agree with you, John. I’m waiting for a vaccine. It makes me upset to see people in Florida flooding onto an open beach. That could lead to all kinds of trouble and heartache for them and others. They do idiot stuff like that and then wonder what happened. Keep safe. —- Suzanne

We have a group here called the Covid 211. They are U of T students who went on spring break to Mexico. West Austin where the university is has the highest number of cases of the virus. Of the 70 kids on a charter flight over half came down with the virus. No data on deaths but you can bet the young ones only spread it and didn’t die from it. Thanks, Suzanne.

It’s all a mess isn’t it? No surprise since we’ve not tried this before. We’ll tell the later generations how we managed though I suppose and how we all pulled together and really despite the deaths and the economic chaos it was the best of times

Your Johnku is right on, John. I understand that people are restless and want things back to normal, but just because you want it don’t make it so. The governor of Florida opened a beach in Jacksonville. That’s about 5-6 hours north of where I live. I saw pictures of the beach filled with people. Of course, the majority of those people are probably tourists from NYC, NJ, IL, and other states where people are cooped up in tiny apartments overlooking concrete and garbage, so they come down to Florida and invade the beaches. This is probably an experiment to see if people are dumb enough to go, and if the answer is yes he’ll open more beaches. I believe these politicians are putting the state’s economy over the people’s safety. My neighborhood is like a ghost town. I only see a neighbor or two when I go out to walk my dog, and we wave and say hello from a distance and move on. Everyone I know is staying home and taking every precaution to stay safe and healthy.

Happy Friday and Saturday, John! Your haiku is perfect and I agree with you. I’m afraid the plug will be pulled too soon which will cause a second wave. The news still shows heart-wrenching stories, so I don’t understand how there could even be talk to open. Our governor said that there are 6 stipulations in order to open up, so I think he’s being cautious, but we shall see.
