Friday JohnKu – AKA- TGIF

Twiggy and Lucy

“Come on, Lucy let’s celebrate Friday.”
“Right behind you, Little One.

It is Friday again, and most of the states have had some kind of easing of the restrictions connected with COVID-19. I guess we all with wait with bated breath to see if folks who bunch up together will cause an increase in the number of cases. As for Texas, the governor eased the restrictions and opened pools and hair salons. In watching the news, it looks like opening the lakes and parks with the idea of social distancing is not working. Party coves on the lakes are jammed and the walkways at parks crowded. So we will see how all this turns out.

There’s not much more going on. I’m planning to start another WIP, but I am trying to decide between two different arcs. No hurry here. Given the pandemic, time seems to be a less important asset.  Today’s JohnKu talks about the new timelines. I hope you have a great weekend.

Not sure you agree,

But time seems to be less rushed. . .

Maybe it is me.

  1. Wasn’t yesterday Friday? I can’t believe a week has passed. A week’s worth of good weather has meant a full week of work, so I’m one willing to say ‘bring on the weekend!’

  2. I’ve been fairly housebound for ages so the lockdown isn’t that much different for me. My caregiver does all the shopping, etc. Most people don’t come here either. Some shops now have longer hours but there won’t be a complete end to the lockdown until May 17th. Stay well, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

    1. Thak you, Suzanne. Take care of yourself as well. Are there still a lot of cases there?

      1. We’re in Pune and that city and Mumbai are considered hot zones. At that, I don’t think there are as many cases here as in parts of the U.S. Someone read there are Indians coming back to try and get jobs here. They pretty much need to let day laborers work or they’ll starve. They live from their pay each day. My daughter’s husband in Chicago works from home but she can’t do acting so she’s taken up more cooking and started sewing. She got in early and has an unemployment payment for four months. My son can work from home at his regular job doing legal research for a group of lawyers. Stay well. 🙂 — Suzanne

  3. I think I would have agreed with your JohnKu, but after leaving the house yesterday for the first time since March 17th, for my infusion. I was amazed at all of the traffic and people racing around. We enter into Phase One at 5:00 p.m. today. That said, I was very impressed with our main downtown hospital, it had extremely tight security and screening. I was put into my own private room instead of a larger room with other patients. Enjoy your weekend, John.

    1. I had the same experience with my infusion last week. I also think you and I have the same brand of mask. I saw your photo on Instagram this morning. Have a super weekend as well. Stay healthy. ❤️

      1. LOL! Probably so. Did you have a difficult time breathing while wearing the mask? My BP was sky high! I guess it took a pandemic for me to finally take a selfie. 🙂 You stay well, too! ❤

  4. I’ve been watching the news with scenes of people crowding with no masks or distancing. Remember Mardi Gras and spring break? This is not going to end well, I fear.

    1. I was just reading about a guy who had atrip to New orleans after Mardi Gras and he just got released from the hospital. Sad thing that we will all have to face in the coming months. I’m sure someone is going to ask later, “Why didn’t we keep the precautions up?”

  5. Time does seem to be less rushed, John. I’m in no rush to line up for the beach access. We are looking at May 20 for the first wave to start. I might get a haircut, but I’m not even in a hurry for that.

  11. I’ve been out for grocery runs and it amazes me how much traffic there is and how many folks still aren’t wearing masks. Even as we gradually reopen, I plan on maintaining distance and wearing a mask – not an inconvenience at all.

    1. I agree with you. The Producer goes out fully protected then sheds what she was wearing. Extreme? Maybe but I would not survive an infection. Also, I don’t go out in public except for medical stuff.

  12. We’re still locked down in Illinois, but are watching avidly what’s going on across the rest of the states. I’m the designated errand-runner/grocery-shopper here, and every time I have to go out, I don mask and stay far from others, then sanitize as soon as I come home. It’s a nuisance, but I can’t afford to get it … or to bring it home to my mom. Best wishes for hatching that new WIP, John!

  14. I admit to worrying about easing up on restrictions… at the same time, I’m thinking it has to start somehow. I understand the worry about our children not being able to increase their own immunity. The almost need to get this to keep them stronger for the future. As it is now, before the pandemic a lot of kids were over-protected and are now allergic to everything and get sick at the smallest thing There was something right about letting kids eat dirt, yanno?

Anyhoo! Hope you have a great Friday. I am not officially sans car as it just got towed away to find out why it won’t start (no, not the battery) so I’m using it as the kick in the pants I desperately need to go do my run/walk thing, It’s bleeping cold out there and I see random snow flakes!

  15. This whole virus episode will make for some interesting twists for teachers and students. Instead of the usual assignment of ‘what I did on summer vacation’ I am sure there will be some interesting twists. Especially in the different states. Did you liberate you state ? Were you part of a biology epidemic experiment ? Did you restart the economy on your summer vacation. Or did you get spaced out socially ?

  17. We are still under shelter-in-place. Rumor says we may reopen some business (no hair salons, parks, gyms, or pools) by June 4th. I keep hoping it gets bumped up but I will definitely do my part with social distancing and masks.

I’ve seen photos with packed beaches and parks and no one wearing masks. Let’s pray we don’t have a setback.

I definitely agree that time seems to moving more slowly. Have a good weekend, John, and stay safe!

Except for finally getting to hug my youngest grandkids this week, I’m still staying home. My husband does all the shopping and said people have already abandoned their masks. Only one store here required you wear one anyways, but most did. Now we wait and see what happens. Technically our state only allows a few stores to open, but much more is coming back fast. Still no hairdressers though. Have a great werkend.

  23. I’m worried that we’re rushing all this a bit. My workplace decided we have to work from home for another six weeks, regardless. It isn’t the easing of restrictions that bugs me, it’s the total discarding of them by folks like your bay partiers.

  25. The distance between sunrise and sunset is obscured for me at the moment. Our lock-down laws will begin to ease more around June 7th, when selected small cafes will be permitted to open (those with tables set to stay safe parameters) We’re holding our collective breaths and pray that we won’t be punished further by our desire for freedom. Troubling times, my friend.

  27. My understanding, John, with the lock down measures, is that they were intended to be a short term measure to allow appropriate safety precautions to be put in place and for governments to gear up to deal with increased hospitalization cases. It could never be a long-term solution. It has its own problems as if people don’t go out their immunity to this illness will never increase so we will never achieve the necessary state of “herd” immunity. It is up to individuals with specific needs i.e. high risk people like my son and my mother, to look after themselves. We are continuing to isolate.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yup. I’m one of those in the high risk category so we need to be careful. Thanks for sharing, Robbie.

  28. Not much ease of restrictions up here, John, at least not in Ontario. We’re in the same boat as Robbie, with a family member who is immune compromised.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I know how that is. In our house, I’m the family member who is immune-compromised, asthmatic, and a cancer survivor. That would be a three strike COVID-19 hit. We are not taking any moves of “freedom.”😁

  29. Time is definitely less rushed. I am spending more time on tasks that I would normally rush through. It’s satisfiying to do a complete job, rather than a hurried one. We are still on full stay-at-home orders through June 5. Despite the less hurried thing, people, especially small businesses are getting frustrated. We will see what kind of effect easing up will have…Great JohnKu!
