Thursday – A Little Personal – The Thunderbirds #Americastrong

Yesterday the Air Force Thunderbirds flew over our house, and Twiggy and Lucy were thrilled.

A Little Personal

“Hey, Lucy, did you hear? The Thunderbirds are flying over Lakeway today.”

“Yes, Little One, I did hear.”

“What are Thunderbirds anyway?”

“They are a precision team of Air Force pilots.”

“Oh, like airplanes. Why are they flying over Lakeway?”

“They just want to to thank first responders, essential personnel, and military service members as we collectively battle the spread of COVID-19.”

“Will we be able to see them?”

“We should be able. They are going to circle the lake.”

“Of course, there is this fence.”

“They will be higher in the sky then that fence.”

“Look up, Little one. There they are.”

“I see them, Lucy. Wow, they make a lot of noise but they look like watermelon seeds up there.”

“I wonder if I could jump up and catch one?”

“Looks like they have passed.”

“Well, that was certainly something to see.”

“Yes. So there are six of them?”

“Yes, Little One. Six F16’s and one chase plane.”

“Well, I think I’m going to hit the water dish. That was certainly impressive.

Thank you, Thunderbirds. Here is the only photo I could get.

A Little Personal

You have to look carefully for the formation (12 O’ Clock level.)

What a sight to see and thank you for sharing your joy, John. I love the third picture down with the girls sitting in unison watching. Much ❤ flowing to you all. Xxx

  3. I love this! So great to see, John. It looked like Lucy was a little more interested than Twiggy. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yeah, sometimes Twiggy gets focused on onter things. There is a lizard who continues to get her attention as it runs across the top of the fence. Thanks, Jill. 😊

  4. I can imagine what would happen if the Red Arrows flew over our house: Trevor would complain loudly, very loudly about his peace being disturbed (he tolerates the odd helicopter but draws the line at jets below about ten thousand feet) and Eos would run upstairs and hide behind the chair in the corner of my study (her safe place).

    1. We live by the local airport so these two are quite used to propeller airplanes. Jets are a whole different story. Thanks, Keith. 😊

  7. Great photos, John. Thanks for sharing. We used to have the Red Arrows fly over Fowey harbour/estruary each year, but they had to stop due to new Health and Safety rules. Another tradition that is no more. The girls look great 🙂

  13. They are LOUD

The coolest thing though is when they make a tight turn and the decompression of the air causes a cascade of condensed water to spill off their wings.

  18. I understand the Thunderbirds flew over Chicago, too — what a satisfying, exciting sight! I imagine it’s hard enough flying one plane, but flying in formation with others must take real skill. You and the girls are fortunate to have seen them — send them back up here, okay?!!
