Friday John Ku – AKA – TGIF

“Hey, Twiggy. Want to chase a squirrel?”
“Hold on, Lucy. I’m going to sneeze.”
“Wait, we need a social distance.”

Another Friday has arrived. I’m sure somewhere there are folks that are very happy to have a weekend. I think those essential workers who have been busting their butt while the rest of us stay home could use a weekend. I hope they have a good one.

The cases of COVID-19 across the US continue. As of yesterday, there were 1,400,050 cases up 30,92.6 from May 12th, That is a 2% increase in cases.

The state of Wisconsin just opened all the bars in the state after the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down a stay at home regulation. The bars were packed after the order was struck down. This is a state where the cases have grown by 3% since May 12th. I guess well see how it looks in 14 days.

Today’s John Ku talks about who we can believe and who to trust during this difficult time. I hope you all have a safe and healthy weekend.

Trust by John W. Howell © 2020

Do we trust the Feds?

Or put our faith in the state. . .

Hard to know who’s right.

  1. Poignant JohnKu, John. I think most Americans can be trusted to do what’s right…more so than some of the Feds. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Such a sad situation, John. So many dying, and here are folks packing into pubs. I read a news report yesterday that said it appears that dozen caught COVID-19 while at an anti-lockdown protest in Wisconsin. Gotta love irony. Great JohnKu. Have a good weekend 🙂

    1. That is exactly what I’m worried about, Harmony. Stay safe and out of pubs (Joke)

  4. There seems to be this weird phenomenon among some people (e.g., the Wisconsin bar crowders) of wishing to make it so. If I act as if there is no virus, then there won’t be.

    1. A very dangerous position to be in. We will have to wait and see. Maybe there is some truth to the herd immunity theory. In the meantime, stay safe.

  5. Things continue to open up more and more here in Florida, but we are erring on the side of caution right now, as I no longer am sure who to believe…or trust.

  6. I’m just hoping it doesn’t get worse. For obvious reasons, my attention is more on the Kawasaki-like thing that’s hitting kids. The whole situation is terrifying.

    1. I agree. Let’s hope someone somewhere gets a handle on causes of these new developments.

Well stated, John. Our area is beginning to open, and I think we must – with caution. The misery people experience because of no income is profound. My three sons in NYC received a stimulus loan that requires use by a specific date. Alas, NYC remains shut down. My sons, and many many like them, cannot access the loan and will soon lose it entirely. Meanwhile, some folks can work from home, and like our elected officials, they receive regular checks. I’m ever so grateful for my retirement check, but I’m equally distressed for all those who do not enjoy the same.

I hope everyone who needs a good weekend gets one. I hope you have one, too, John.

  9. Being as this is new to everyone alive today – we can only hope someone is giving us accurate info. I for one will not be at the bar or gym just yet.

  11. I saw that picture of those putzes in the bar – like you said, we’ll see the results in 14 days.
They talked and talked about opening up the schools for this past Monday, then next Tuesday and now elementary schools won’t before September 1 but high schools or professional programmes (like my eldest) maybe on May 25th (he is hoping and praying so that he can start working as an electrician sooner than later)…
Who to trust? We are all going to have to face the new way of doing things and until people stop whining about being told what to do and doing it for the safety of their fellow man, things will remain in this stuck place.
    Have a fantabulous weekend, John!

  12. I just don’t think we can afford to stick our heads in the sand on this one, John. Those scenes of the Wisconsin folks in the bars horrified me. If they want to catch the virus, why don’t they go to WalMart and lick the handles of all the shopping carts?? Lovely JohnKu — enjoy your weekend!

  13. John, I will put my kindness to work in line with your first thought. The front line workers deserve a break. So the last thing we should be doing is putting our covid infected bodies into the hands of EMS, Firefighters, and Emergency Room personnel. That is not giving them a break weekend or not. Reopening with careless barroom abandon is like demanding baseball double headers everyday and daring those front line workers to keep up the pace. That is not kindness to anyone. And considering the built in time delay of symptom on set and the still dicey chance of getting a test and more time delay on the results I am fairly certain we should redo the 14 day math. I have heard from more than one source that onset can be between 14 and 21 days. Add on the rest of the timeline to actually receiving test results and we are talking closer to a month. So we most likely won’t be getting any fuzzy nearly focused count of new numbers till mid June. Hoo-rah into the maelstrom me mates !

    1. Thank you , John. You make a great deal of sense. I still see a COVID-19 tsunami coming.

I think we can move forward being cautious. People need to work, but we can do it safely, which I’m not seeing. My son lost his jobs in the beginning, didn’t get unemployment because he was a full time student in 2018. No, that doesnt make sense. So he’s done odd jobs to survive. But still I won’t be crowding into any venue anytime soon.

  18. Trust the Feds? Absolutely not! Not now, not ever. Here in Texas, things are opening up and there is a music festival the weekend of the 22-23 of May. My closest friends will be there and my heart wants to go, but my gut says no. I will listen to my gut.

  21. HI John, I don’t know if I know what’s right either. Small busineses are really suffering. I’m lucky to still have a job. I read about the Wisconsin bars – hmmm. I think it has to be gradual, but I also think it has to happen. When though, I don’t know. Very tricky to balance it all. You said that all in a few words, rather than my ramble. Hope you have a nice weekend.

  24. As more and more testing is going on we’re going to see more positives so the numbers go up. In my area, we’re not doing too badly. We’re counted as part of a quad.4 counties are the makeup of these numbers.

As of yesterday, we have 137 total cases, 45 active cases, 90 recovered, 2 deaths, and 3 in the hospital.
1,798 tests have been given, Results back 1,479 with 1 positive result, and 1,478 negative. I hope a large number of negative results continue as the rest of the results trickle in.

I hope everyone has a good weekend too!
