Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Prompt –

Stream of Consciousness Saturday

Chances are this is Stream of Consciousness Saturday, and here is Linda Hill to explain this week’s prompt. “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ch.” Find a word that starts with “ch” and use it as your prompt word. Bonus points if you start your post with that word. Enjoy!”

So now you know why I started this post with the word “chances.” I can hear those bonus points hitting the register now Cha-ching. If you would like to join in the madness, visit Linda’s blog, and find out how. Here is the link.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 23/2020

Chances by John W. Howell © 2020

🎶”Chances are cause I hold a silly grin the moment you come into view.” 🎶

“Okay, you trying out for something?”

🎶 “Chances are you think I’m in love with you.”🎶

“Come on. What’s the deal?”

🎶Just because my composure sorta slips when your lips meet mine.🎶

“Lips? What are you talking about?”

🎶Chances are you think my heart’s your valentine.”🎶

“Hold on, fella. What is the matter with you? Oh wait, it’s Saturday, and chances are you have a Linda thing going on.”

🎶In the magic of moonlight when I sigh ‘Hold me, close dear.”‘🎶

“That’s not going to happen.”

🎶Chances are you believe the stars that fill the skies are in my eyes.”🎶

“You drunk?”

“No, I’m not drunk you, idiot. I was trying to finish this song and collect some bonus points for using a ‘ch’ word.”

“Why didn’t you just say so instead of giving me a scare.”

“Scare? About what?”

“The way you were mooning and crooning, I thought maybe you were stuck on me.”

“Oh, now that is funny. What would make you think I would be stuck on you.”

“Just the way you were singing.”

“Not a chance, big guy.”

“I see. Well, when you put it that way, I’ll be going.”

“Now, let me ask you. Are you drunk?”

“Not yet. Give me time.”

“Okay, let’s go. I’m buying.”

“And you said you’re not stuck on me. Want to take it back?”

“It is just a beer. Chances are you’ll come to your senses.”

“I think you are right, but it might take more than one.”

“Sucker punch?”

“Yup. You are easy that way.”

  7. You can’t start each sentence with Chances Are and NOT give me some Johnny Mathis (coz it started playing on my head at the first one.) So. Here! https://youtu.be/NEH3uqbpsm8

Forget all the note emojii’s – that line is where the real music happened.

  10. Bonus points for starting with ch and extra bonus points for how wonderful and clever this post is. Makes my day. David Bowie “Changes” might be bumped from earworm status as I hum “Chances Are” the rest of today 🙂

  12. Hi John: Here’s mine (with gratitude to Carl Sandburg)

Chicago: Hog Butcher for the World,
    Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
    Player with Railroads and the Nation’s Freight Handler;
    Stormy, husky, brawling,
    City of the Big Shoulders:

They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I have seen your painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys.
And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again.
And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the faces of women and children I have seen the marks of wanton hunger.
And having answered so I turn once more to those who sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer and say to them:
Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.
    Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job on job, here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the little soft cities;
Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action, cunning as a savage pitted against the wilderness,
    Bareheaded,
    Shoveling,
    Wrecking,
    Planning,
    Building, breaking, rebuilding,
Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with white teeth,
Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs,
Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,
Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse, and under his ribs the heart of the people,
    Laughing!
Laughing the stormy, husky, brawling laughter of Youth, half-naked, sweating, proud to be Hog Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation.

  17. Hey, John. You know, of course, I didn’t pen that bit of prose. That’s all Carl Sandburg. I just used it to obey the rule that whatever is posted must begin with “CH,” which Chicago does! I don’t want to be branded a plagiarist!😉
