Wednesday Story Day – AKA – Hump Day

Hump Day

“Look me in the eye, Lucy.”
“What Little One?”
“Don’t Tell me it’s not Friday.”
“It’s not Friday.”
“I said not to tell me that.”

It is Wednesday Story Day again, and last week we were here when Larry and the lieutenant struck up a deal to investigate the root cause of why someone wants to see Larry and Andrew dead. Right now, Larry, Andrew, Lieutenant Mayfield, and a State trooper are in the SWAT conference room. I think they are putting together a plan. Let’s go there and maybe get some insight as to where this whole mess is heading.

“So major that is the long and short of it. Anything to add, detective?”

“You can call me Larry. No, Major, that’s about all. Short of getting back to Boston, I think trying to find the guys trying to kill Andrew and me is the next best thing.”

“Thank you, Larry. You and the Lieutenant did the right thing coming to the State Patrol. From what you told me, I think we are dealing with some professionals. Here’s what I think we should do.”

“One second major.”

“Yes, Lieutenant?”

“Larry just gave me an idea. What if we fake another trip to the airport?”

“I see where you are going. So maybe we can draw these guys out again?”

“And maybe get a prisoner who might be willing to trade some information for a break.”

“Okay, I think that is one plan. I was thinking of trying to ID the dead and perhaps getting a hit on their identity. We might be able to figure out who they are working for.”

“Good idea major, but so far, we have no hits.”

“Are you using the RAID system?”

“Yes, and INTERPOL as well.”

“It does take time for sure. Well, I guess we have to wait then.”

“What about my idea?”

“No offense, Lieutenant, but there are so many liability factors connected with your idea that I would be very hesitant to try.”

“Like what major?”

“What if one of these guys got killed. Their families and the lawyers would have a field day.”

“Not to mention it might hurt.”

“Yes, thank you, Larry.”

“Okay, then Major, what else can we do?”

“I have a couple of informants on the payroll. Let me talk to them and see if there is anything on the street about someone wanting to hire a hit.”

“How long will that take?”

“A couple of hours is all. I’ll make the calls. Do you have someplace private here?”

“Yes, you can use my office. Come with me, I’ll show you. You guys sit tight. I’ll be right back.”

“Thanks, Lieutenant.”

“Larry?”

“What, Andrew?”

“You sure he’s gone?”

“Looks that way.”

“I got this uneasy feeling.”

“You hungry?”

“No, not hunger. Uneasy feeling about this whole thing.”

“Talk to me.”

“It seems odd that someone could commit suicide with poison. In jail.”

“Yeah, I thought so too, but sometimes that’s how it goes.”

“Call me suspicious, but we need to be careful.”

  1. “We need to be careful.” Possibly the wisest thing Andrew has said yet – albeit perhaps a little late.

    2. Yeah, poor Andrew. He tends to say the obvious. You can imagine the eyeroll after that statement.

  5. Lots of good one-liners in this one!

Lucy and Twiggy are looking conspiratorial in that header photo.

  6. I’m with Andrew. But, if something was going to happen, why would they (the bad guys) be waiting? Still, I’d be happier with the fake trip to the airport, followed immediately by a real trip to the airport.

    1. When a contract is issued on someone it never expires. So waiting is all relative. I wish I know who was behind the contract. Wait…. Did I just say that? Thanks, Dan

It’s hard to know who to trust in this mess. I’d love to see one of those photo maps used on TV shows, where people and places are connected by dots. I think I need some dots… or else, I’m inclined to tell Larry and Andrew to run while you can! 😀

    1. A great idea, Gwen. I wouldn’t trust anyone either. (including me) Thanks. 😁

  9. I’m finding it harder and harder to trust anybody in this story — well done! Being suspicious of them all, of course, means I’m hanging on for dear life, wondering who’s going to come out alive in the end.

    1. Yes your mis-trust is well placed. Thanks, Debbie.

  10. I totally agree. It’s impossible for them to trust anyone. It seems that everyone is in someone’s pocket. Well, I hope they get to the bottom of it without any more crazy escapades. But, something tells me they won’t. 🙂

It seems any suggestion from our two gets zapped… They can’t trust anyone and ummm. yeah, Andrew. Good idea to start being careful.

  13. These guys should use their phone call to contact their agent. Maybe they can move to a nice middle grade book, or a romance of some kind. I’m sure they’re starting to get jumpy.

    1. I think Andrew woud like the romance choice but I think Larry will go more for a paranormal. He can play the ghost.

  20. They need to sneak out the back door of the police station, go to the nearest cheap clothing store and buy new outfits, including hats to partly hide their faces, to to the nearest bus station, then take a bus to anywhere at least 100 miles away, then the nearest airport and home!
