“Hey, Twiggy. The sod is looking okay.
“What’s that fence doing there?”
“I think it’s to keep us from splashing through the puddles.”
“I’m looking at this grass, Lucy. It looks a lot better than the new stuff.”
“Remember how it looked when it first went in.”
“Oh yeah. I remember.”
“I’m hoping the rest gets to look like this.”
“I think we need to stop worrying about the lawn.”
“You are right, little one. It is on its own now.”
“What are these things, Lucy?”
“Those are hummingbird feeders, Little One.”
“Do we feed everyone around here?”
“No, Little One. Just the hummingbirds.”
“Okay, Lucy. I think I need some lunch.”
“That sounds good to me too. Here let me get the door.”
“I guess we should call the folks Little One unless you can make lunch.”
“Yeah, a real good idea, Lucy. I’ll bark. That always brings them quick.”
Glad the girls are enjoying some sunshine and fresh air!

Nice to see the hummingbird feeders, John. Lucy and Twiggy seem a little mellow today. 🙂

Funny you should mention it but it was a real azy day for them for some reason.

They seemed a little more subdued than normal. Maybe they’re adjusting to the warmer temperatures. 🙂

Could be. It was 89 degrees when I took the shots.

We set up a hummingbird feeder recently. No idea of we’ll get any though. They’re around, but not common.

Another sweet story, John. Where are the folks when you need them, right? Barking definitely works wonders, but if that doesn’t work…beware of what lies ahead. 😀

Around here one bark is all that is necessary. Thanks, Gwen.

You might need to put the hummingbird feeders a bit higher, John, I think Twiggy might get the idea those little birds are new toys for her and Lucy. 🙂
Have you been getting any of the rain we’ve had? We’ve gotten more the past week than we ever got with a hurricane!! When the sun finally comes out, you can almost watch the grass grow. I think the mowers might need to come out a bit more than usual.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Hahaha on the feeders. They are seven feet up. The mowers are scheduled next week. This grass needs to grow at least six weeks before the first cut. Yes, we have had a lot of rain. This is the time for it around here. Looks like a week before any more though. Thanks, GP

I suspect your new sod got well-watered yesterday. We had terrific storms late yesterday afternoon, and — oh, woe! — the winds ripped the roof off the Dixie Chicken in College Station. At least the girls got to shelter inside, although their sod had to fend for itself!
LikeLiked by 1 person
My goodness on the Dixie Chicken. We had some wind but not any damage. We got about two inches of rain on Tuesday and then just traces on Wednesday. The sod loved it. 😁

Glad the new sod is doing well. I’ve never tried hummingbird feeders, but I’ve always meant to. Maybe I’ll eventually get there.

I’m sure if you just left the fridge open, John, they could handle making a meal. The grass is looking good. We have to get some topsoil and sod to fill in years of dog ruts that are threatening to tip over my snow blower.

Hahaha. I can see the dogs running around a stationary snow blower. Quite a vision. Thanks, Craig.

I know the girls will be ready to investigate once the fence in down. In the meantime, the hummingbirds should keep them entertained. 🙂

We have had to rename critters here. If we mentionion the real animal Twiggy runs and jumps on the sopha to look out the window to see. Squirrels are now flounder, deer are gazelles, fawns are toothpaste. Life in the fast lane.

That is too hilarious! I can’t say “Walk” with Zeke, or “outside” or “out” or even “Do you wanna…”
“Cheese” gets a stand up quick reaction (especially since he’s on antibiotics and gets a chunk twice per day)

Thank you, Lynn. It really is nice to be able to relax out there. The nice part it is covered so we can stay out of the rain.

The late great Dallas used to get lunch, too, despite what the experts say about feeding adult dogs ONE meal per day. Glad to hear I’m not the only one to succumb to those soulful eyes … and a dollop of guilt!! Sounds like a perfect time to get the sod in — before the rains. The girls will be enjoying a lush lawn before they know it!

I think I’d love to spend hours sitting on your porch, watching the hummingbirds, the girls, reading, sharing a brew with you…
I feel like I’m living in Texas, heat-wise – you don’t get humidity much, do you? Here, yesterday, it was 91, felt like 109. Now, at 10 am it is already 82, feels like 93. Supposed to go up to 88, feels like 97 but that’s what they called for yesterday and we surpassed it. Then come the thunderstorms and the temps are gonna drop like no tomorrow, going as low as 57 on Sunday. What crazy place is this?

We do have humidy here. On average it is 67 percent. This seems okay to us since at the coast we were regularly in the high 80’s or 90’s with feel like temps in the 100’s. We also get many days (like 30) of 100 degree temps in the summer. Sitting on the porch with a brew would be a good thing. Heck, sitting anywhere with a brew would be a good thing. 😁

I figured you must have some. Ours is life-sucking when it gets up there.
Darn tootin’, sitting anywhere (in the shade) with a brew would be a good thing!

How nice that you are feeding the hummingbirds, John. I have never seen a real one. We get lots of loeries and robins here, with a few owls thrown in for good measure.

There are no hummingbirds in South Africa so the best you can do it try to attract sunbirds whch are like hummingbirds. 😊

I didn’t think we had hummingbirds, John, but thanks for confirming. I have been meaning to check so you’ve saved me a job. I would love to see a real hummingbird. We have hadeda here. They are big and noisy. We have two adolescents and a mother living in our garden right now. I encourage them to stay near my parents cottage – they are very noisy and my parents are both half deaf [giggle].

Hahaha. Good way to handle them. You might try a feeder filled with sugar water for the sunbirds. But them I’m no expert sitting 8000 miles away.

I’ll try that. We leave out cut fruit for the loeries.
