I thought it would be a good idea to look around the neighborhood and check on how the deer are doing. Come along.

Good heavens. I’d love to live in a place where the deer are so common, especially when the fawns are around. Of course, I know they can be a nuisance since they have a taste for certain garden plants, but still… Your photos are great, John. They’re certainly smile-producing! I was wondering if Twiggy was off-leash. Have you trained her not to chase deer?!

I loved your comment about Twiggy off-leash. She is never off-leash. She cannot be trusted not to try and take down a pick up truck. If she were off-leash she would chase deer for sure. There is something about bulldogs and their natural tendency to want clamp onto something. 😂

What a wonderful beginning of the day! Deer wander through our area as well, sometimes in packs. A neighbor likes to feed them (melon rinds and other treats), so the deer are always close by. ♥

Amazing, John. We don’t see that many deer and we live in the country. When we were in Vancouver, BC a few years ago, deer were everywhere along the city streets.

What lovely images, John. It is so amazing to me to see that deer are so comfortable as to stroll around your neighbourhood like that. I’m sure people with vegetable gardens love them a little less, though. We don’t see them all that often here, that’s for sure.

I have heard. My friend, who lives in Montreal West, has a completely caged in garden. Who would think in Montreal the wild animals were so prevalent…

There are a number of plants the deer don’t like ans so you see a lot of those. Yeah Twiggy would love to have a mile run with one of them. Of course a buck could step in and make it a 100 yard dash for Twiggy. Thanks, Dan

Mon Dieu! You are full of them! Free citizens of your town! Now I comprehend better why Twiggy & her spirit of order are attracted with them so much… She might dream to become one of the herd! I suppose that Lucy is not so involved in the deer affairs, as she is too wise for that. 🙂

We only have bushes that they don’t like. Rosemary, Heather, Cactus, certain grasses and flowers. We have a fenced yard wher we grow the stuff they do like.

Sometimes it gets a lille concering when the fawns bolt out into the street. They have no fear of couse, but sadly some do get hit.

That is rather sad, John. We get wild animals on our national roads in the more rural areas. They sometimes bound out into the roads too and cause accidents.

I always find it amazing how the deer can be found wandering around even in (the middle of) big cities. Well, in the quieter residential areas, that is.

Wow, what fun! I love deer. I’d be over the moon if I had deer in my yard … well, actually I’d be worried because my yard is really small and someone would probably shoot it (not me or my husband, of course). But I get a kick when I see them in the parks where we like to walk. Thanks for sharing, John!

I never tire of seeing deer and their sweet faces. Although we had to fence off my roses and garden from them, they do keep the brush down. My dog spots them easily even if they try to hide in the forest:)

Driving from Luckenbach to the KOA campground 5 miles down the road Friday night late, I saw nine deer by the road. I drove 40 mph!

You seperate them from the blooms by fencing. Where there is no fencing you plant things the deer don’t like. You are so right, if you don’t take care nothing survives their munching.

I LOVE DEER. Years ago, I had a nasty boyfriend, one of many, whose one saving grace was a cabin on a lake. And one morning, while he slept off the night before, I went to sit outside and who was basking in the early light, but a doe that was oh, so pretty, I’ve never forgotten her, and the best part was, she didn’t run. We just sat, like two girls enjoying the peace and quiet. When I excitedly told Errol Flynn, he didn’t believe me, said, deer are petrified of people. Yeah well, I didn’t know it yet, but, Joan of Bark was about to be born. I LOVE THE PHOTOS. Thanks.

When my daughter lived in the foothills we never did find any landscaping plants the local deer didn’t enjoy. She ended up getting Irish Wolfhounds which kept things not too horribly disfigured. 😆
